Ok I'm getting the car lowered finally (i've finally caved under the pressure)

so the choice that im left with is which.

Ive narrowed it down to either Apex or Eibach as i cant use coilovers due to the side skirts allowing no more than a 35mm drop (the cars a daily runner doing 90+ miles a day with alot of pot holes/speed bumps to contend with)

Apex will give a 25mm all round and the eibach pro give 35mm on the front and 25mm on the back (which im not to keen on the idea of that i have to admit)

Apex cost £86 and Eibach £141.

Which would people go for and why?? and are the Eibach worth the extra £60. Please use the poll above as well

cheers

i had apex shocks and springs on my old car they made the car handle really well and i loved them the car wasnt an ibiza but they put up with potholed roads for 2 years before they started weaping and for that reason i advise you go for eibach as i dont think thats a great amount of time admittedly they did take a lot of grief but i think you get what you pay for.

Just springs Phil-bob? Using standard shocks?

Jimski

From what I gather this is the issue, using springs and standard shocks makes the ride worse. If you have a decent set of coilovers you don't have to have them wound all the way down and many say the ride is less crashy.

I'm running on lesjofors and they're superb comfort and handling with a 40mm drop. I've heard people saying the apex are a bit harsh.

cheers for the input guys.

yep, the car does need dropping a bit, and yes standard shocks more than likely as having read a few other threads regarding suspension if it does make it worse than by not much, but considering the standard fr suspension..... can it really be that bad

as true as this may be a.) the cost b.) coilovers i think they drop the car too much wound all the way up  as i say i dont want a drop more than 35mm and even that will be pushing it

the standard fr suspension is very hard at the minute so i dont mind a hard ride, i'll look into the lesjofors and see if they so any if they for mine and at what ££

I think my coilovers would probably go high as standard if not higher all the way up...

Anyway you will get a worse ride with just springs and probably will go through shocks slightly quicker than normal (everyone says that I'm not sure it makes a massive difference).

I would go with Eibach if it was myself.

I've been buying stuff from a place called buypartsby but you have to phone for the springs as they dont list them on their site. I got a full set of kyb gas shocks a few months ago at about half the price of everywhere else then I bought the lesjofor springs just a few days ago for £118 delivered. They're swedish built and tuv approved. I really can't believe the difference in my car, I've just given it welly coming up the road and it's so planted now and I don't get thrown about either. 40mm is about as low as you can go on standard shocks.

eibachs are the best compromise between comfort and sportiness.
i have had eibach prokit springs on standard shocks and eibach sportsline springs on standard shocks and i can tell you that the ride was not crashy.
as for Apex i cant speak for them.
eibach put in alot of effort in to R&D for each specific model
and dont adopt the "one size fits all" approach.
most tuners recommend eibach and im sure that speaks for itself.

You have to remember to that some springs are the same stiffness all the way (linear) whereas others are (progresive) and get stiffer as they compress. The progressive ones tend to be comfier at lower speed.

cheers for all the help here guys, its mucho appreciated :D

ive decided to go for eibach for sure, based your advise and having driven a car today with a eibach pro kit fitted (standard shock) the car was a fabia vrs but same basic car and the ride for me seemed better and less choppy than the fr suspension, i drove down the same road straight after and mine definately seemed worse

Can you get some pics of yours when the springs are fitted? I'm debating whether to go all out and just get coilovers, or go for some springs

The lesjofors are tuv approved and designed for these cars too and they have an even 40mm drop all round.:bleh:
