Anyone with a Dynatwist?

I'm going for the jabba kit on mine, i currently have a dynatwist if anyone is interested in that? Breather, intake, shield, brackets everything that comes with it. Pm me if anyone's interested.

I think doing any mod has got irs pros and cons and to be honest no one can compare anything because every car is different

For example:- I have had a new MAF on mine but someone else may not have but they could have had something different needing replacing! I have no idea why my MAF went before but is there any point working it out? At that point in time i had a standard airbox on and it still went! Surely this means that it doesnt really have anything to do with what filter you buy its just one of those things and these cars have a weakness with MAFs and other cars have other problems, i know some things cause things to happen quicker but it seems to me that if its going to go it will go anyway and its just a matter of time, you know?

unfortunatly that was somewhere i was mis guided and i dont feel like im alone

when i bought my car it came with a cheap air filter and the first thing people would say is iv gotta get that thing off quick before the maf goes

something about letting particles of dust through and how oiled filters let oil into the maf

i then ran 3 months on the standard air box, and then started my search for extra performance with the dynatwist which iv had on for 9months now

still on original maf that came with the car, but i suspect that buying a £150 air filter didnt have much to do with it at all

i actually think the heatshield/can around the filter is worth more than the filter itself

1. Green panel filter in a standard airbox - ~£35

Pros
OEM Fitment/Stealthy Install
Good flow and filtration
Cheap
Low chances of heat soak

Cons
Standard airbox is restrictive
Low 'DV' noise
Looks standard (some people like 'bling')

2. Green panel filter in a modded airbox ~£50

Pros
OEM Fitment/Stealthy Install
Excellent flow and filtration
Cheap
Low chances of heat soak
Good 'DV' noise

Cons
Looks standard (some people like 'bling')

3. Budget 'mesh' Ripspeed/Blitz/MMM style cone filter open in engine bay ~£30-£100

Pros
Cheap
High flowing
Great DV noise
Looks good

Cons
Sucks hot air from the engine bay
Very poor filtration
Reduced MAF life
Reduced Engine life

4. Jabbasport Cone filter open in engine bay with heat shield ~£230

Pros
Good flow and filtration
Great DV noise
Less chance of heat soak due to the heat shield
Looks good

Cons
Very expensive (It's just a JR cone filter and a bent bit of metal)
Heat soak can still be an issue

5. RamAir Maxflow 'enclosed' filter ~£123

Pros
High flowing
Good filtration
Average price
Looks good
Great DV noise
Less chance of heat soak due to the heat shield
Removable heat shield for more noise

Cons
Poor fitment
Not as noisy as an open filter

6. Dynatwist 'enclosed' filter ~£170

Pros
High flowing
Good filtration
Looks good
Good DV noise
Less chance of heat soak due to the heat shield
Removable heat shield for more noise

Expensive

good lad martyn, worth posting that stuff in a new sticky at the top of the mk3 section?

I find the green panel filter best out of all kits ive used, dynatwist, open, hurricane etc. SO long as youve removed the standard restrictive pipe from the airbox, your better than you were :)

Yeah thats what im going to go for i think after reading what Martyn has put! Which pipe do i need to remove?

iv heard some induction kits will only work properly up to a certain bhp (please correct me if im wrong)

does anyone know how much the jabba will take until its starts to ........ well ............ not work properly ????

That is a million dollar question isnt it? I remember asking how long a piece of string was and it reminds me of that! (i was hallucinating at the time with Chicken Pox)

Every car is different and takes to things in a different way?

yes, but for example on the BMC website it tells you what sizes are etc .... but it also tells you what bhp is recommended for each filter
 
Alex, the small pipe that feed the airbox from the wing. It's also good to smooth out the ridges inside the box :)

Dave, you'd need to call Jabbasport to find that out mate. I know some of the 300+ IHI boys have them on their cars though.

Sweet, 300 is what im aiming for eventually, good to know i dont need to change the induction again

Great stuff.

Always great to get the people who know involved.

That's a really good run down mate, and i agree about the sticky too.

So if we take off the restrictive pipe, and smooth out the ridges tha'll be best option for now.

When with teh saxo group it was mentionned that drilling holes in the box was a good idea...in my opinion it just made it suck more hot air in....but more sound out....did i have the right train of thought?!?

The pipe is a nightmare to remove unless you take the wheel arch out, so you'll need to jack the car up.

Did my mates Cupra, was a bit of a mission.

Worth it though, although I havent removed mine yet! Lol

Im also possibly looking at a green panel filter :)

All you have to do is remove the airbox and rip the old pipe out....none of this wheel arch rubbish :)

so what size airefeedwould you reccomend and where would you put it?

would you keep it in the arch or move it so its close to the outside, ie, near the grill or something ??
