Just been trying to figure out why my oil temp gauge isn't working. Came across this sensor where the wiring has snapped from the top of the sensor. Does anyone know what sensor it is??

Also found another plug, any ideas what it is??

First sensor with broken wiring (plugs into the top of a pump under the alternator)

Thanks for the quick reply :)

So the brown one near my dipstick should be plugged into the oil temp sender I guess?? where is this??

Also seeing as the first 2 pin powersteeing pressure switch isn't connected what will happen??

Im guessing that if the PS pressure switch is the same as other cars, it increases the power to the PS pump based on steering load. Try turning the steering when staionary, to full lock. The car may stall.

i also have the third wire loose, i believe that is the oil temp wire, that comes attached on Cupra R's but lord knows what part the other half of the loom is!

on a second note, where did you get your red tubing from attached to the FPR?

Cheers Jonzy: will give it a go

Anyone know where the oil temp sender is so I can re-connect the brown connector???

Forbez: That's not clean mate ;) I'm a bit of a cleaning freak and trust me that needs another few hours to get up to standard! Tend to just give it a wipe everytime I wash the car (more than a few times a week!) but only take the cover off and give it a proper clean every few weeks to a month.

Red tubing was bought from ebay I think, it's just 4 or 5mm Red silicon tubing cut to length and used to replace all the standard vacum hoses as they were starting to deteriorate. Looks pretty good I think

in your third photo, you see the greyish block to which the oil filter is attached to upside down?

On the top of that there should be the sensor, if not you will see a bolt (means there is no sensor) are you sure yours is a genuine R ? :p

Yes its a genuine R!!! cheeky!!

Will go and take a look now, BRB

edit: Just been to look but can't really see without taking the cover off again (bit awkward cos I'm at work!) so I'll look later. Wonder why it's not connected??

How do you clean it though mate? I've given mine a good going but never looks that clean. Think i need some degreaser of some sort on there.

Did use some spray on degreaser and finisher about 6 months ago on it. Came in 2 cans you get from halfords, one is a degreaser you spray on then rinse off and the other is a sealant to make things nice and shiny!.

I found having the cover on keeps things nice and clean, you running without it??

Intercooler pipes where polished with metal polish, want to do the inlet manifold next.

you can go as far as rubbing them down with progressively lower grades of wet and dry to get them really shining but then you have to keep on top of them as they have no protection. Mine cleaned up pretty well with degreaser then metal polish, just takes time

Well I spent last night looking for the oil temp sender and I'm either blind or there isn't one. Does anyone have a pic of exactly what I should be looking for??

Strange thing is my brother swears the oil temp gauge was working when he first got the car so the plug must have been connected to the sender at some point. Think it's probably just me not looking in the right place!

Jonzy mate, I can promise you it aint a fake cos it was mine originally. Also the gauge did used to work mate, I'm assuming its the one down the bottom of the centre console your meaning?

Easy tiger, only joking :)

If the sensor connection is like some other ones ive seen, theyre very easy to miss. Some just look like random threaded pins in the block.
