I know I did! I stick to my belief that fun begins when traction ends. Icy conditions are the only time I can get the back end of my Ibiza to properly swing out, and even that is with a nip of the handbrake, but god is it good fun. I think I need to invest in that rear ARB as soon as possible.
It's also a good time to see just how slow the traction control is. It cuts in very late and is so clumbsy. Fun time of year though, I think. As long as you give yourself enough braking distance!

did last night, when driving back after a night out about 2 tonnes of snow came down in about 5 mins and it became treacherous.

My mate also stacked his 2 door scooby STi this morning, so be careful out there peeps, its just come down again here and all the roads are white again,

The braking is the ABS cutting in, it's a weird feeling. As for the noise from standstill, i don't know. Sometimes my clutch makes a noise like when you flick one of those springy doorstops (thats the best way I can describe it!) but that's when I release it pretty quickly.

yes stevo1, i believe i have that noise too, after tredding on a wobbly door stopper earlier it helped me describe the sound also, i think its the accelerator unit which your DBW is attached to, it backs off the throttle. I might be corrected though :)

this is a proper grinding noise. the sort of noise that makes you remove your foot off the pedal labelled "fun". its quite scary. guess it aint normal. from standstil in the snow do you guys get the usual wheel spin noise?

I have found that the traction control system is usually fairly good at cutting in when in normal conditions, i'll agree that the snow causes all sorts of randomness with it though lol

M0rk, what is edl?

Oooh sounds posh, I didnt know the Ibiza had one of those!! Does that work as well as the T/C cutting power to the spinning wheel to help keep the car stable?

Yeah I had great fun in the snow and ice earlier, handbrake and rear sliding round, but great practice for driving on snow/ice! :D

Was much easier to drive and control in the Wifeys Focus than my car though maybe it would have been better with TCS off in my car?

had some fun attempting to loose a sporty model mondeo....wasnt too hard

floored it in first quite abit of sping, engaged 2nd and at 3k there was alot of spin thought id be putting me and my mam into the barrier bt had faith and eventually it gripped, went to 3rd and well.. in no time at all i was being told to slow down

i came up the m-way tonight at a steady 32mph, had to keep re-setting cruise control, coz i was going too fast for the conditions!!!!!!

then some Italian twat in a 45ft articulated lorry flew past in the third lane doing what i recall to be more than the limiter will allow, but we'll say 56mph

there were times when 20mph felt scary:scary:

Yeah i had great fun driving home last night, even though I take it alot easier now after I learnt my lesson last year the hard way......80mph, black ice and trees don't mix by the way!

But anyway I was really impressed with the traction controll/edl. It managed to get me up a very step and snowy hill!!

T/C cuts power to both front wheels, EDL controls the diff for each individual front wheel

Yup thats what the noise is! The car is applying to brake to the wheel which is spinning up the most. Only works at lowish speeds due to the excessive heat that would be generated in the brakes at higher speed!
