hi, new to this forum, not sure where to introduce myself, but got a few questions about the mk4 ibiza, im looking to buy a 06 plate 1.4 sport 16v thing, and wondering if there are any perticular problems with them ?

and also what about the availibilty of coil overs and braking ?? or how do they drive as standard, had some trick bits on my old car, so wondering how they compare,

cheers for any response, nik

Take a look at the stickies in the MK4 Ibiza section for ideas on various mods you can make to your car.

I'm not sure about the newer cars, but I had a few problems with my 03 car, mainly the wire snapping going to the starter motor and the rear wash/wipe pipe coming off inside the boot lid. There were a few other problems, but I can't remember them now. Have a little search around the forum and you'll find a number of faults.

Coilovers are readily available for them, through a number of manufacturers.

The brake upgrades are more tricky though, you can upgrade to 312mm TT/S3/Leon Cupra/Octavia vRS brakes but you will also need to change your hubs. The TDI 130s and 1.8Ts don't need new hubs.

A few things that went wrong with mine: rear washer pipe, anti roll bar and linkages, seat cables (but they go on every new car) and rattles: lots of them.

Yep, you can get AP's from the Cupra, or a Brembo GT kit from Badger5, and other good, or not so good retailers.

Again, you will need to change your front hubs as the caliper carriers are built onto yours while they come as 2 seperate parts on the faster models, making it much easier for upgrades.

I have to say though, I had the S3 312mm setup on 2 of my MK4 Ibizas and I, along with many others, rate them very well, especially for the price!

Oh yeah, are you looking to buy new or used?

If you're going for new, the DAB special edition, with the 100bhp 1.4 16v and a load of extras is the same price as the 75bhp 1.4 16v Sport. A bargain IMO, especially as the 100bhp engine is much better than the 75!

how do i know which model it is ? i know the number plate, is there any obvious differences, the car has quite nice/sporty seats, and has height adjust on the seats, and buttons on the steering wheel, and also has an ipod connectors on the back.

Well from what I can gather, he's been to view the car on a forecourt. He would've said he's ordered the car in the first post ;)

its a preregistered car, so is 06 plate has done 20something miles i think, so is a bit closer to being new than my a reg fiesta

and ive put a deposit down, so its mine, not too fussed what one it is, only for a cruiser car any ways, got my kart for going fast, and gonna build a track/looning back roads car soon enough anyways.
