Any pics of your stereo?

Defected!
I've just purchased the Becker Grand Prix.

I have added the ipod connection, is this easy to route to the glove box?

Cheers.

How about in the ashtray? Mine is a 5th Gen iPod Video 30gb which by today's standards is like a house brick. If that fits, any iPod will.

I had the Becker Grand Prix fitted yesterday and a couple of things I have noticed on the 1st drive to work.

The AM station reception is non-existetent. I spoke to the company who fitted it and mentioned the need for an aerial amp and was told it wouldn't be needed. It appears this is wrong? Do I need to get an aerial amp fitted to fix this?

Second thing. I thought the volume was speed dependent and again this doesn't seem to be working/connected. Am I wrong or should the volume vary with the increase in speed as the Aura used to do?

Other than that the ipod connection is fantastic but I keep jumping back to the beginning of podcasts and it does take a long time to go back to the original point if you were 40 minutes into it!!

The speed dependant thing could be an option you need to turn on or they haven't connected the correct cables at the back, it does my head in anyway.

You will probably need an VAG aerial booster, i was told that when you change the stereo you need one of these otherwise the FM will be dodgy and the AM will be nonexistant. I ordered one for mine yesterday for about £5

Did you get the speed sensor fixed?

Where did you order the VAG part from? Dealer or online? Do you have a part number?

Thanks for the help.

No, I hated it, when I worked for VW and would turn it off on my company cars, I would be driving along with the tunes blasting then pull up at some lights and it would go all quiet!

I found one on ebay, the stereo shops want about £15, only need to change it because i've put a stubby little aerial on and my receptions gone. If it works i will let you know.

The fitting company are going to add the aerial booster on Friday.

Does anyone know specifically what I need to do to get the GAL speed dependent volume connected up correctly?

The Alpine iDA X100 is fitted and I've also painted the centre console to match the previously painted fascia, so no more mismatch silvers.

I have to say that this is by for the best Stereo i've owned and i've had a lot Apline's as well as many other top brands.

I haven't changed any speakers from OEM and i'm not going to bother fitting my sub because the sound is very clear and there's plenty of bass. Although it has no CD player it's not been missed, I have an 8GB USB stick that holds roughly 90 CDs worth.

I've also worked out how to put your own custom picture onto the iDA's display.

I've had no problems playing off any of my usb sticks, album art only from iPod, once you learn how to use it, it's very easy to select songs from albums while on the move.
