I "THINK" my front wheel bearings are on the way out i have done 36k but have VERY stiff and lowered suspension.

the reason i think this is cause of a small whining sound and its not the tyres wheels discs or pads???

how easy are they to fit and where can i get some from ???

thanks alot steve

A wheel bearing will normally make more noise when under load
the drivers side is under load when turning left and vice versa, so check it out

As for replacing the bearing I would of thought that it would need to be pressed out and the new one pressed back in with a fly press

It would be a case of removing the strut I think

anyone ??

for replacing a bearing it will need a press tool the origional bearing and hub will need to be pressed out of the steering knuckle and the new 1 will need pressing back in. the whole steering knuckle will need to be removed from the car to do this so driveshaft, trackrod end, strut, droplink and lower arm will need disconnecting take it to a local garage or dealer and they will have to perform the work for you

just becauseyour getting irreglar noises dont juspto conclutions as nathwarr said it is normally diagnosed on road test when turning right the n/s wheel bearings are under load but wheeing noises could be caused from transmission parts or brakes how have you checked so you KNOW that the noise isnt the brakes?

when you press the clutchdown do you still get the noises when you brakedo you get the noises????

ok, the noise was not there untill i swapped the wheels around and even though i have changed them back its still there?

the noise does increase when i brake hard but doesnt make any diff when i corner its a consistant sound?

the only thing i noticed was the drivers side front disc showed signs of friction on bottom half as it was brown colour and felt very slightly sunker to the rest of the disc and the pad had evidence of this to, but i have now changed the pads and cant seem to see any signes of excessive friction now??

could be the disc?? not sure its a really strange one to pin point or explain.

i dont think the disc is warped as i have had this on a previous car and i dont get the same sound or vibrating when brakeing amd as i said the noise only increases under HEAVY breaking??

thanks for help

well that will be your abs kicking in under heavy breaking i certainly wouldnt rule out your brakes being the suspect of this weiring noise i dont think this is wheel bearings at all (and thats good news!) warped discs could certainly be the noises and biger wheels will put a little more strain on your braking system get the discs changed and see if this helps. sounds tho your discs need changing anyway and dont cost alot!

Had a wheel bearing go on mine, was real loud drone when cornering one way, real easy to change if you can find a press to borrow! £78 from the dealers, you have to replace the whole hub assy. as the bearing doesnt come off it! :)
