right people could do with some help. im a mechanic by trade but this one has got me stumped. its a 1.6 on a w plate, came in as a non runner, diagnosed as a head gasket/valve problems, took head off changed gasket, pressure tested and changed a valve. when putting engine back together cam sensor was found to have melted, so changed this too. anyway when put back toghether and oil, water and all neccssary parts changed fired vehicle up and it ran terrible, wont idle, barely revs up, and rattles like hell. has anyone got any ideas? is this a problem with these engines?

melted??? through heat or short???
if its the cam then it will run disconnected as it will run off ckp. try it ,if that works scope the sensor if thats ok trace the loom back to the ecu if the looms o.k then youve probably got a duff ecu probably caused by water ingress
