Another iPod question !

Hi everyone,

Sorry for asking this, I know it's been discussed in numerous forums. But trawling them, I can't seem to get a definitive answer.

I've just taken delivery of my July 2008 Cupra and I'm wanting to put an iPod connector in it.

It's a standard Cupra, Aux-in, MP3 CD player, without bluetooth and no MDF.

I know I can connect my iPod to the Aux-in, and this works great. But I want to be able to chrarge my iPod without having to connect it to the 12v via cable.

I'm not bothered about it displaying track name etc. Just want it connected, charging and been able to choose playlists (a glorified CD changer I guess). I had this type of setup on my Mini Cooper S, a retrofit kit that i got from BMW and fit myself.

Is the cable they sell at Seat dealers the best way to go?

Also, if this is possible, will it kill my Aux-in socket?

Spenner.

You'll lose the aux socket as the ipod cable plugs into the same cd-changer port on the back of the stereo.

Note unless they've changed the ipod cable since I got mine it won't charge any of the "new style" ipods. Iphone 3g onwards, Ipod Touch 2 etc only charge through the USB pins on the dock connector and a lot of things use the Firewire pins to charge as it's cheaper for the manufactures. Apple have dropped this method.

From the car all you can control is skip back and forward tracks and volume. All other things have to be done from the ipod.

Thanks for that DeanJ. I think I'll just leave things as they are then. Seems a lot of expense and work for a little reward.

Do a search on here for the Dension kit.

Thanks morleymackam.

That's the one I thought about, but wasn't sure about what was entailed.

As I've just mentioned above, think I'll stick to the Aux-in socket.

By the way, is that yellow cupra on your avatar? Looks like it's parked outside of Redline at Knaresborough.
