Another flat spot thread

I know that there is another thread going by a similar name but the information on there is sketchy at best.

I have a LCR225 and is just past it's first birthday with 17k on the clock and have noticed several times that there is a noticeable flat spot or momentary drop off in acceleration at about 2000-2500 rpm most noticable in 3rd and 4th gears. When you stick your boot down off it goes, turbo surge starts at about 2000rpm then dies off a tad till 2500 when it comes back on song.

Anyone else get this and if so is there a cure or are they all like this.

Maybe someone could try it on way home form shops/work/etc and see if theirs does it too!

Thanks for any input.

I've been having this issue with my Ibiza Cupra.

Took it to Westec today so Grant could have a look at it.

He changed the Plugs for a start which made a huge difference but even with the improvement in power it was still dropping down and then shooting off again.

Grant come to the conclusion after getting it on the rollers that the problem i was having must be to do with the APR map. The boost requests have been specifically set at certian points to smoothe out the boost curve.

He showed me a comparison of my Dyno run against a similar Ibiza Cupra running REVO as apose to APR.

The revo power graph shoots up and then drops quite quickly where as my power curve doesnt quite get so high but it holds it for longer thus resulting in a smoother curve.

Its quite annoying really cause its like a sort of hesitation. If i were to floor it it would go, dip, then go again.
It would dip exactly at the point where maximum boost was achieved which led us to believe that there was a weakness somewhere.

Westec couldnt find anything wrong with the car as it made 202bhp with 225lbs/ft.

Other things to look for are boost leakes/shot plugs/dodgy DV etc.

MMM, I not had any re-map unless you count the REVO trial i had about 8 - 9 months ago and only bit of tinkering with the ECU was having cruise fitted, but it was there from about 5000 miles anyway so long before i had anything done to it! Its just starting to get to me now as i'm finding a few more little things that annoy me about the car!

Go and see Grant & Jock at Westec in Newport, you can get it sorted in a few hours  sure it will cost you an hour of there time but unless you have VAGCOM and time to do the logs etc you'll not get it sorted.

When we logged mine it was doing it at exactly the same time and in exactly the same spot so we just put it down to the APR Map.

One other thing also is do you have a Induction Kit fitted?

When i had my last Cupra it was fitted with a BMC CDA. Whoever fitted it had pushed the TIP back a little too much to get it fit in the engine bay and had caused a slight bend in it.

Upon acceleration in 2nd ger the TIP was closing up due the bend and then once the boost eased off up the Rev Range it released.
This we think is what was causing the stop/start effect that i was getting.

The TIP was starightened out and the CDA was re-fitted by Grant@Westec correctly and it did ease things a little.

i think when the car is under load the ecu sends a request for more boost then when it has this and the car is accelerating nicely it tones it down a bit,

iv noticed on my boost guage, if i floor it it shoots up to 11/12 psi, then settles back down to about 9 where it stays thru the rest of the range

personally, i can't see how 'smooth' power delivery is all that possible when you've got a turbine powered by exhuast gasses to force air into the engine, i.e. there is an alien device bolted on to a 1.8 20v engine that without would only give around 120bhp (i haven't looked it up so don't quote me). So to have an extra ~100bhp from this device means there must be some dips and pulls through the rev range. That's my theory anyway. A raw 3.0 v6 or huge gussling v8 engine is smooth and not dependent on any alien device - but it costs loads more, drinks fuel and weighs more. So unless you have a supercharger, the turbo's the only option. I do reckon somthing's wrong though, so get it checked out. Why not take it to a main dealer and ask the little apprentice if he fancies being a passenger whilst you make him feel poorly! - oh, get him to stare at the laptop too.

I have Revo, and that is far from smooth compared to stock mode. Stock is back on now.
