another egr problem!!!!

ok so in the last 11 months my 2002 1.4 ibiza SE which i've had from new has cost me, in total, approx 4500 quid to fix on varrious things:

cam belt (fair enough)
gear box
clutch
anti roll bar (had to drop the sub frame to change)
egr valve (twice)
key fob
front wiper motor
front wiper mechanism
ecu
usual tyres etc

the words money pit don't cover it, i now know what supercar ownership is like, but without the super part.

so my new problem; the engine light came on as the dealer said it was the egr valve again ok so 238 quid later they've changed that and sorted some other niff naff out, 100 yards (literally) down the road light comes back on, says it's the egr vale again so he uses his computer, turns the light off again test drives it for 7 miles, comes back says its now fine but there may be a problem with the 'pre cat' putting little bits of crap through the valve, anyway i drive off again another 100 yards down the road exactly the same thing happens, the car seems to be running ok but i need this fixed cz i want to get some money backand flog the thing, any ideas?

have you changed the exhaust gas recirculator or just reset the fault? ???? ?

changed the valve twice (in feb and most recently on saturday) reset the fault on the second trip to the garage on saturday.

well thats obviously not your problem have the stealers had it apart and examined yet! no funny noises smells

I have my engine light on all the time, its because of my EGR valce aswell, oh but i forgot, i dont have one anymore as it was reducing my power, so now my car is faster and ill i have is a light on the dash. Big deal

3 different dealers have looked, all came back with different answers, on said egr valve change, another said the same the last said pre cat starting to go, the things done 90k now so i'm not concerned if it is that, i just don't wanna waste my money on something i don't need. Got a mechanic comin round on thursday to have a look, he's more of a mate and more trustworthy, the thing sounds, looks and smells fine, i'm just stumpped now.

Why dont you just get rid of it? if its a 1.4 and its done 90k miles, its pretty much fooked now, and seeing as you have spent neigh on 5k on parts, id certanly get shot of it.

can't get rid while it's not working part ex value's only 2,700 at best so it has to be a minter for private sale, could push 3,500 privatly. i'll keep you updated.

no he couldn't make it, he's been ill lately. do you know anywhere i can get an engine diagram? something so i can fault find for myself?

would need a diagnostics kit only garages hold these really as the exspense of them (my work has 1!! ) probably will just throw up the same fault egr falve

where abouts it the egr valve on your motor (do you know) its really hard to get hold of a diagram of the hole engine you could try seat parts directly as they do print outs of diffrent sections of the car (i get print outs all the time ) thats all i can think of really??

as you look at the engine bay from the front, it's to the right of the block, at the front and just kind of tucked under the cover, it's easy to get to i just want to know whats in the system before and after it.
