Still searching for parts. I was just wondering, will an air bag control unit from a mk 3 or 4 fit my mk2? The unit that fits in the steering wheel won't fit from a mk3 or 4 will it? Did the mk1 have a driver's air bag? If it did, will the control unit or unit for the steering fit my mk2?

Also, will a pre face lift mk2 front bumper fit my post face lift mk2? What about a bonnet? That should fit shouldn't it? How about headlights? And what about a grille and front body (slam) panel?

Thanks, and sorry for creating so many new topics lately...

P.S. I can't thank you guys enough for all the help you've given me! Thank you!

Bumper won't fit
Bonnet will fit
Headlights are different, as are the indicators, so they won't fit
Grille, is different, won't fit

think the slam pannel may be the same, not 100% sure though

I've also got a spare airbag, drivers side one out of my GTi, un discharged but it has a scrape along the top. you can have it for the cost of P&P, but i'm a bit unsure if you are allowed to send these things in the post?

That's a very good point! Does anyone know if you can send these in the post?

I really wouldnt send an airbag in the post, bearing mind a garage has to have a special license to fit them as they are/were classed as pyrotechnics. If it was to go off and rip a postmans arm off in the process the consequences don't bear thinking about.

Good point. I've had some quotes back from breakers and they include the airbag in postage. Is they because they're insured incase anything happens to the item, or anyone handling the item?

If you wrapped it up in lots of layers of bubble wrap would that be ok? I mean there's still going to be a risk, i surpose, but otherwise i'd have to travel miles just for an airbag... :(

Without being dumb, if my car didn't come with a passenger airbag as standard, i can't somehow install one can i?

Same goes for ABS. If that wasn't standard, i can't somehow install them can i? Not necessarily me, but even SEAT? (Not saying i want it done, but is it possibe?) Thanks.

Dunno about the passenger air bag tbh, never crossed my mind.

I think you could install ABS but it would be a hell of a job, as you'd need to wire sensors in for each wheel, then there's the pump and then i think there's a control unit for it too, but i'm not sure whether thats part of the ECU or not. Basically i owuldnt be bothering

As for posting an airbag, maybe you could but it may have to be special insured postage or whatever, it would be essentially the same as sending a grenade through the post!

by replacing the glovebox you could and if i remember rightly the inners of the dashboard are reinforced and of course there is wiring and control units to consider also

as above you will need a pump with control unit / new brake pipes / sensors on each wheel / and wheel guides - and some wiring to lights/controls/each wheel = big BIG job

DONT even think about it - we used to be able to topple over a 500 litre steel bin with them - like this

would you want to pick it up and throw it in the back of a van ?:confused:
