Hi there,

I've seen a Altea today from a private seller, which I want to buy, but was wondering what the situation is with transferring warranty. Basically the car is 2 years old, has done under 60K and has full SEAT history. I then notice on the SEAT website, that the 3 year warranty comprises of 2 years SEAT manufactures warranty and then 1 year dealer warranty.

Does anyone know how this works? i.e if I buy the car privately will I be covered, can you transfer on the last year of warranty? is it only covered by the original dealer in the last year etc?

If anyone can shed light on this I'd be most grateful!

cheers

it'll be covered on the VIN of the car regardless of owner.

2yrs are 'factory' warranty, unlimited miles
3rd year is 'uk supplied' dealer warranty at any UK dealer

so if you had a fault, just take it to a dealer & they'll sort it

I've a sneaky feeling that MrBone has bought the car that I'd arranged to buy tomorrow. I'd agreed a deal with the seller and was going tomorrow to buy it, and he stopped returning my calls. I got a mate to phone and ask about it, and he was told that someone had been and picked the car up already.

The specs, mileage and everything matches the car I'd seen, and the date of MrBones post ties in nicely with the seller refusing to accept my calls.

Still, I can be happy in the knowledge that he probably paid a lot more for it than I'd agreed. And I know all the faults that have been put right under warranty. ;)

Hey ho.:D I just bought another one today anyway. Well, unless he sells it before I get there tomorrow aswell.....

I bought my 2005 altea 4 months ago from a private chap in Kidderminster(who bought it from a dealer), 3 weeks later the cruise control and the eject button broke on the cd player. I phoned the cardiff seat dealer and they replaced both items no quibble no worries, Happy days:D:D
