ive recently bought one, is there any probs i should look out for apart from the oil thirst which ive read is common on that engine

The main issues afaik are:

Uneven Tyre wear and Wheel noise
Water Ingress/Delamination of glass at bottom of front windscreen.
Dual Mass Flywheel/Clutch Failing.

No pics yet, in garage for a new radiator today, noticed it was leaking coolant last week

was the leak in the front where your grille is? if so maybe an investment is the honeycomb grille to go behind the front grille. this stops stones destroying the radiator.
