only joking. Even if the engine's a bit underpowered its still a nice car.

Engine map tuning? I think that's the only cheap and practical mod. Exhaust and CAI may reduce power on a non-turbo car.

other than that I don't know. I'm sure other members will be along shortly.

Good luck!

a remap for the money wouldnt be that practical, you could put a better set of tyres or brakes for the same money and get a better return for your money.

I really wouldn't bother trying to get more power out of the 1.4, complete waste of time/money.

Induction kit and exhaust to make it sound a bit rortier.

Juts leave it alone - save your money and bide your time, build up your NCB to put towards a faster car. You'll end up getting fleeced for loads of money that will do next to nothing, you might get hammered even more by the insurance company, and you'll end up with a car worth less than a standard one when you come to sell it. Its sucks, but patience really is a virtue.

Reg is right save your money and put it towards a better car when you have a few no claims points.

We have all had to do it, i was driving a 1400 Astra before i got my 2 litre 8v mk3 Golf GTI.

I had the Golf for less than a month and i had fitted a decent stainless exhaust, 17s, coilovers, debadged grill, mk4 look headlights, M3 style rear lights, tints, and a tailored remap on the ECU for an extra 40 bhp.

I paid for all of that on the money that i had saved by owning a fairly sh1t 1.4 astra that had been owned by a headmaster of the local catholic schoool before me!!

Every Porsche owner you meet will be able to tell you about a sh1t car they owned while they were getting there insurance down and there car fund money up. Bite the Bullet and run a low spec motor till th insurance companies trust you more and your boss starts giving you a decent pay packet!

Alll the best

If you wanna do anything i would go with some hyper subtle euro style mods.

clean up the rear by debadging.

get rid of any nasty orange bulbs (silvatecs or something similar)

If your pocket can stretch and you have the know how then swap the bumpers to Cupra or Cupra R bumpers but avoid anything aftermarket as this will affect resale value

look on seatcupra.co.uk as there as some good ideas on there about changing wipers and seat badges etc.
