All Season Tyres - Vredestein Quatrac Pro

The first All Season Tyre has finally arrived Ateca fitting in both 18" and 19". VAG had been busy making a range of related cars with fairly unique tyre sizes which didnt have an all season option. 4Drive running on summer tyres doesnt give you what you are paying for. The 4Drive being a bit rendered useless in the country setting for getting out of the village unless you swap to winter tyres... concern is getting back in if it snows when out ;).

Vredestein

Now Vredestein Quatrac Pro all season tyre:

Launch video teaser

Launch video

Was launched about April time, reviews are thin on the ground but the predecessor the Quatrac 5 was well thought of in wet / dry handling in one 2018 review of available tyres... although the new tyre does have a different tyre pattern to the latest.

That guy is promising a review of winter tyres in 2019 latter in the year.

Autobild like the predecessor tyre from the manufacture in 2018:

Dutch video of the new tyre in action:

Wiki on background information about the company... "7th largest tyre manufacture in the world":

So from no choice to Hobson's choice on VAG SUV All Season tyres.... an all season tyre option at last.

If anybody buys them or finds more reviews post up. It seems this tyre is priced about £50 more than the Bridgestone's summer tyres that came with it, with similar noise and wet weather handling based on the published tyre charts but obviously grips in the snow.

When I had the Yeti, I put some Falken AS210's on - lasted 55k miles and got me wherever I wanted to go - so much so, if they'd have done them in 20" I'd have put them on my Disco Sport - they do make them in 225/45/19's though?

I think at the time I chose them over the Vredestein's, purely on price

19". Think that's the problem, although may be when it's time more brands will be out.

I use to have summer Falken tyres fitted to my old Altea, I was happy with them. My Ateca seems to be wearing the Dueler tyres well although it's the snow conditions in Wales after Xmas I worry about. 4Drive worked OK on the flat on the Bridgestones in snow in London but on hills I don't reckon they will be much good ;). Which defeats having 4Drive if you run on summer typres, which is why I want to move to All Season next time round so I don't get stuck on rural roads. Due to VW SUV odd tyre sizes, All Season one are more tricky to find.

The Yeti on AS210's did just fine in Wales - used to be a regular visitor to Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire

...unless you go for a conversion size where there's plenty of choice. 245/45 18" on mine just now. Even 235/55 17 winters have seen the speedo match GPS and my insurers were told.

I'd be happy with the Quatrac Pro based on the Auto Bild review. It is the 19" that restricts choice but least there is something now. At the minute the original Dueler are holding up well after three years but want something up my slieve when I'm told they have had it. The wear is all nicely balanced around all the tyres and still very legal after the MOT and service. Fingers crossed no heavy snow in the new year, more getting caught out or in from home :).

Just to clarify Falken AS210s are All-Season M+S tyres (hence the AS) and available in 19" - although listed under their 'Car Tyres' rather than SUV so they shouldn't be discounted (unless they're the same price as the Quatrac - then it make sense to buy the Quatrac)
