Alhambra Transmission Problems

Hi,
My Alhambra (TDI 115 HP) suddenly stopped going into gear or driving at any rate.
When it is put into gear and the clutch released there is a grinding noise but no power is transmitted to the wheels,
I am thinking it is either a gearbox or clutch issue any ideas?

Hi, sorry to hear that, but sounds like a similar problem my 115bhp SE had a few years ago, was a blown drive shaft. Makes a metallic grinding noise.

I'd agree with Goz

We do loads of them on the MK2 Alhambra, the drivers side driveshaft has a 2 piece splined shaft that makes up the extra length from the driveshaft to the gearbox.

Yes,
I got it on a lift this evening and that is exactly where the problem is, I have taken out the shaft extension, Do I just replace this or, can the female end at the gear box be replaced easily?

We always replace both parts at work as they tend to wear pretty evenly, the gearbox end is held in with 1 bolt straight through the centre so 10 mins max should see it off and the new one on.

Thanks.Roly
Ive ordered the parts from the local SEAT dealer it comes to £300 for the two pieces seems expensivewe for a simple part which fails regularly!

That sounds about right, somewhere around the £127 + vat a piece

Strange thing is nobody seems to want to offer a pattern alternative at present, there's deffinatly a market out there for them though

Hi everyone i have just changed both of these, after they were fitted it now seems there is something gone in gearbox has anyone had same problem? Or have i fitted shaft wrong. When the shaft blew i was not going very fast 10-15mph so not sure if i should have done damage to box. Any suggestions would be good apart from set fire to it.
