Alarm lock explanation please...

Hi,

First I do hope you all had a Merry Christmas with the ones you love and wish you a Happy New Year!!:D

Secondly, I would kindly like to ask someone to explain me how the alarm works. My manual is in Portuguese, but it doesn't go into details...

So, if I use once the key lock button it locks the whole car activating the alarm... does it activate the motion (I guess it's called volumetric) detector?

If I press twice it locks the car with a double-lock security... what's that? I guess it activates the alarm and also the motion... but what's the diference from the 1 press lock?

If I want just to open the driver door, I should press once the key, right? If I want all doors to open I should press twice. I get that, but can you explain when does the car locks itself after a few seconds without using any door? My manual does not say much about this... and is confusing.
Say... if I drive and the car locks up and then I leave the car and do nothing does he locks himself again? I've found situations when he didn't... and others that he did.
Another issue... the other day I left the car with my kid inside (although he was always in sight). After 30 segs it locked up and fired the motion detector alarm. For what I read to turn it off I must take the key off the ignition, open the door and press the little button hidden next to the door and near my left foot, right? But must I always do that if I want to leave my kid inside... and have a talk to somenone near the car?

Hope I'm not too confusing... and if you have documents enlighting this feature in english I would appreciate. I understand terms in english better than in my own language... like computer terms... it's far better to understand native english than translated ones...

Cheers,

RuiD

I think your talking about the mk4 Ibiza not the mk3 (well in the uk we call it that anyway although I know you have a different numbering system).

The car will lock after a certain amount of time if you open the doors and dont open and doors or the boot. But as soon as you've opened a door thats it they wont lock by themselves unless you press the unlock button....

Thanks guys,

Well my car is from 2003 and according to some people here that have informed me I guess it's Mk3... but apparently not. Is it Mk4 then?
It's a 1.2, 3 cylinder...
