Alana Problems

When I bought the car I was aware I needed to sort the radio code out. The little card hasn't been filled in and is still sitting fresh in the Alana manual - this is annoying. Surely this should have been done before the car was handed over to its first owner?

All the unit is displaying is 'SAFE'. No amount of button pressing changes this. I was under the impression that should change to '1000' to allow the code to be entered?

To sort the code should I:
  • Ring the supplying dealer (Trenton of Hull)
  • Ring my local dealer (Lookers Stockport or IMG Warrington)
  • Talk to SEAT UK

I'm not in possesion of the new V5 certificate yet, having only had the car a week. I presume the dealer may need to see this? I do have the section 10 (new keeper suppliment) of the old V5, which I would hope satisfy them.

I'm not really prepared to pay out to have this sorted, as the car clearly wasn't supplied with the radio code in the first place.

Suggestions/advice welcome :help:

Thanks,
Steve

If the ALANA handbook hasnt got the ser no and pin details I would phone the supplying dealer with the chassis no and let them get the pin no and ser no for you.

the "1000" bit is the bit you alter to enter the code, 1 for the first digit 2 for the second etc

try your local dealer see what they say

From having a Fabia vRS before, that also had a HU made by Grundig - the operation was very similar. But I'm sure it's supposed to flash up 'SAFE' (to indicate it's coded) and then display '1000' to allow you to enter the code. This certainly seems to be what the manual infers; although the grammar/English is a bit ropey, so the explanation isn't that clear [:@]

Will give Trenton a call tomorrow I think, see what they have to say. Although at the moment, even if I have the code, I can't see what I can do with it.

Anyone actually had to go through this process, and succeeded?

Thanks,
Steve

No probs - just didn't know whether you were referring to the post above yours :)

Nope, no code - so I'm a bit stuck in both areas. Need that, and also a way to enter it.

I'm thinking it may be stuck on its 'one hour between attempts' setting, so may try leaving the HU on for an hour, see if that changes anything.

Arrgh! Trenton won't give the code out over the phone. Apparently they need to, "check that the unit is compatible with the car"! Surely they would have a record that matches a car with a radio and its serial number? Seat must do this surely? I had the radio serial number to give them...

I'm going to need to go down personally to a nearby dealer now. A shame I can't just land on Trenton's doorstop but I'm in Manchester and they're in Hull!

I'll fight the local dealer if they try to charge for this - I wouldn't have all this hassle if the supplying dealer's (Trenton's) had bothered to fill the radio card out in the first place.

OK - found a scribbled number inside one of manual pages. Left the unit on for an hour and finally came up with the '1000' display. Progress - or so I thought. Entered the number I'd seen, by pressing numbers 1-4 repeatedly etc. Then thought I needed to press 'PTY' and wait for a beep?

Nothing happens, and the code I'm trying just stays on the screen! I'm coming to the conclusion that not only am I not sure of the code, but the unit itself might well be knackered as well :(

Sorted - finally!

Thanks to Lookers Stockport. Helpful guy on the phone, said he'd ring through with the vehicle/radio details to Seat and would call me back in about an hour. I had the code 40 mins later. Couldn't have asked for better service.

Why Trentons couldn't have done that, as their mistake caused this, I'll never know

Thanks for your replies guys. I now have music

No probs. I was starting to go mad with no music in the car. Now I know everything works OK, I can push ahead and get my Phatbox installed. Result! :D
