if a car didn't have air con, but other car the same model did the could air con pump/belt etc be put on to the non a/c car

Yes. Just the compressor wouldn't do much good though.

To fit aircon to a car you would also need the condensor (a second radiator that sits in front of the one you already have), evaporator (the bit that cools the air, goes into the heater unit between fan and heating matrix, may need a different heater blower casing to take it), refrigerant tank, expansion valve, various other tanks, pressure sensors and pipework, all to be fitted in the engine compartment and behind the dash.

Then there's the controls; dash panel, control unit and possibly a new radiator fan control unit, which also controls the compressor clutch. Climate control adds more temperature sensors in the cabin, ducts and outside, servomotors and control flaps in the air ducts.

You may also need the ECU functionality changed, possibly just by VAG-com, as the engine needs to know when the compressor is coming on to increase the fuelling and absorb the load without stalling.

It's very difficult to add airconditioning to a car after it has been built. Not impossible, but not something you'd volunteer to do for fun.

jesus hell of a lot of work. Just something i was considering while buying a new car. Thanks for the information, i'll just have to keep my beady ones open for the word ac in the adverts lol
