I took my car to W.J. King seat coz the climate was not blowing too cold.

The car is only 2 years 9 months old and the warrantee expires in October 2006.

The dealer the said that my car was low on coollant and as such needed regassing. The guy who attended to me then told me that i would have to pay £80 to regass the car. (At this time he had fully discharged all the gass in my aircon).

I declined his request and reminded him that the car was still under warrantee but he insisted that it was not a warrantee job and had to be paid for.

So i left and went to an independent aircon specialist but the specialist told me that if the car is under warrantee the aircon needs to be regassed by the dealer free of charge.

Previous owner from new was from Lincoln and i'm sure he never used the aircon that much:think:
The independent specialist then said he could regass my car but it would be like wasting money. He suspects a leak:confused:

I think the dealer trying to buy time so as to relinquish responsibility so my warrantee runs out so they can nail me with stealers charges.
Help:(

Hi Mate
As far as I am aware , the air con leaking gas will not be covered under warranty.
As you had mentioned about the first owner not using the air con , this could be the reason.
You need to use the air con to keep the oil circulating on the seals.
If the seals get dry you can damage the seals and then the gas can escape.
That is how you loose the gas.
How can you put a warranty on that.
You have warranty for electrical faults or manufacturing defects and more.
But how can you warrant for a dry seal?
Sorry

My advice is refill with air if you suspect a leak, that way you won't lost 80 quid if you do have a leak - fill with air, and pressure-test again after a week or so. if the pressure is the same, fill with AC gas, if no pressure, look for the leak. soapy water on valves, seals and joints usually shows the problem

If the car is over 2 Years old it should have been taken for an A/C regassing at 2 Years old in line with the service schedule.

This is part of the servicing schedule that needs to be kept up to maintain the warranty. When they are 2 years old they need the A/C regassed and brake fluid changed.

These aren't done as part of the standard 10,000 mile / annual servicing, so are basically just another way for the dealers to fleece an extra £140 out of us all!
