Hi

Done a search but couldn't find anything.

I have just repaired a Mk2 toledo Yreg and have changed the airbags and seatbelt tensioners.

How do I reset the airbag controller (ecu)?

There's 2 ways of looking at this.

1. Airbags are a safety item and mucking about with their control systems once they've been activated is not a good idea.

2. You could give Bell Autos a look and see if it's something he's able to do. His website says he can do it.

Personally, I'm on the fence about this one, as I've not got any knowledge about the systems in question, but I've heard arguments for both sides.

Not sure you can clear crash data with Vag Com. Certainly you can clear airbag fault codes, but clearing the written memory of existing crash data isn't one I've come across with Vag Com.

You can buy a crash data removal unit from some diagnostic leads suppliers for about £150.

DPJ, you must be just up the road from me....;)

Yea sure you cant reset the contol unit on them you have to buy a new one (or one that aint gone off). Anyone know where it is on a mk1 leon folks for reference?

Hi,
You can only erase fault codes, if it has registered "crash data stored" you have to get a new e.c.u., but it MUST have same part number and software version, It will also need to be coded to your cars spec once fitted.
It is very important the part numbers are the same including the end letter/s, as there are a few different types or you may damage your new airbags.

Jochen.
