Looking to replace my steering wheel with a later one from my 95 ibiza GTi. Is it a difficult task to do? I've scored my airbag cover and would like to replace it with another one. Is it easy to swap over the middle sections of the steering wheel (without them blowing up in my face) or would it be easier replacing the whole wheel and airbag

thanks

If it's anything like a mk4 Polo... IIRC - and it's possible I don't as it was several years ago - you need to remove the airbag assembly (using two allen bolts accessible from the rear of the wheel) to get access to the big nut that holds the steering wheel on anyway. Obviously, you only do any of this having received the proper training...

So long as you disconnect the battery before you start, it shouldn't explode in your face as you remove it. What happens when you reconnect the battery is another matter of course ;)

its easy enough to swp the air bag bit on the wheel, easier than swapping the wheel cos to do that youve to ake the air bag bit off anyway. i swapped my wheel for a momo one just disconnect the battery but leave it a while for it to 'discharge' (haynes) and then nscrew as said above. if you can get a middle bit and are happy with your old wheel then just get that bit, probably cheaper too... i have a complte wheel all the same if you want to buy it
