The fault i recieved on my car was AIR INTAKE MANIFOLD SENSOR no signal (intermittant)

Please could someone give me a link, photo or good description of where this is located. I need to replace it and i keep reading MAF this and AIT that and also that the sensor is in the airbox but isnt the MAF ?!? This sensor must be pretty serious becasue its keeping me below 1400rpm

Thanks. And sorry for those who have been previously involved with my lack of knowledge

2.0 16v ABF

Its located in the air ducting, between the air filter and throttle body.

I would check the connections when you find it, and also have a proper good look around all the air pipes, vacuum leads, and also hot air pipes etc that may go to the air filter box on your engine. As any leaks in these may affect the sensor reading, ie the sensor may be ok and doing its job and you have a split hot air pipe somewhere.

I was under the impression that the sensor your talking about is the Air Flow Sensor (MAF). I would have expected the sensor to be manifold related to bring up such a fault description

Your MAF is right by the air box.

According to Haynes on the ABF its as i said. That is for the 'Inlet Air Temperature Sensor.'

Doesnt mention a Manifold sensor, but it is haynes and they are rubbish!

My haynes descibes the location of the inlet air temp sensor as in the right hand side of the inlet mainfold, But the only electrical i can identify is the stabilisation valve and there is a multi pin plug into the block

Im going from the Golf book.

I think by the right they mean the right as though you were looking from inside the car, which got me once when i ordered the wrong engine mount.

So it might mean the left of the intake manifold as you look into the engine bay.

This is why i asked the question. Cant find a detailed, for sure answer on the location and name of the sensors on an ABF. The haynes vague descriptions and lack of photos isnt helping. I can see me creating a detailed diagram for the forum after ive replaced every sensor (which it is heading towards)

I dont have that engine, but ill just post anything i find, this one is from an audi forum, so may help;

AIT – Sensor – This is a small sensor located in the intake manifold just after the throttle body. It is responsible for monitoring the intake temperature. It can get coated with oil, and can affect gas mileage, and a loss of power. It is common to remove it and clean it with alcohol, or electronics cleaner.

Try this, according to the 2.0 vw engine;

Ok, if that is a 2.0 it is located on the side of your intake manifold near the VW emblem. It's a little thread-in thing with two wires coming out of it.
