Air filter kit for Leon Cupra R 225, 2005 model

Hi

Wondering if anyone can advise on what are the best cold air enclosed induction kits. Previous owner has fitted K&N cone filter but I don't like how it looks and also it will probably suffer from heat soak in the summer as it is open in the engine bay (not so bad at the moment as its so bloody cold).

TBH I would go back to standard airbox but don't have it (when I brought car didn't know it had the K&N).

I have seen one that looks quite factory and has its own box but can't remember who makes it!

Thank you

John

Hi JD, welcome aboard :).
Air filters are widely debated as you guessed, but with it being a turbo car with intercooler i wouldn't worry about heat soak too much as what matters is the temp of the air entering the intake mani and less important the temp of the air entering the turbo. Open cone gives best gains in my experience. An after market FMIC will aid in keeping air cool entering the engine after the turbo.

I had a K&N 57i but didn't like it (not throaty anoth for me) so I drilled and smoothed original airbox and wish I'd done this in the 1st place

Thanks for the advice. I don't really want to spend too much on it at the moment as I only brought it in December so I may stick with the K&N at the mo. and perhaps change it if I get it remapped or get bored of the noise!

However I am thinking of getting it RR before I do anything to see what power as standard it is putting out (I know its supposed to be 225 bhp, but would like to know if it is making it for real).

Anyone know any good RR in Swindon/Wilts area.
