Air filter flooding

Hi guys. Really need some help because this is driving me mad. I'm just looking to see if anybody else has ever had this problem.

Basically, from time to time, when starting the engine, it fails to turn over, and instead - the air filter fills up with petrol. This happened last year and the AA bloke said he had never seen anything like it. It happened again last week and the AA bloke said exactly the same thing. It happened again today however, I was able to sort it by just drying out the engine (in the p*ssing rain) and jump start it.

I have no idea why this is happening so really need some help. Otherwise, I guess it's time to get a new biza which I can't really afford right now.

Thanks,
Si

has it got an induction kit on it?

if so, take it off and replace all the pipes properly, first time would be enough to make me change back

Thanks for the reply. I don't have an induction kit. Just a K&N replacement filter. But I know it has nothing to do with that as everything in the car was standard when it happened the first time (last year).

It's EXACTLY one year on since it happened first aswell which is strange (almost to the day).
