After noticing water collecting in the passenger footwell of my 04 LCR earlier this year (actually it started late last summer but then stopped over Autumn/ Winter) I put it into the garage for them to sort it out. I knew it was caused by the Air Conditioning as it only happened when Air Con was switched on. To cut a long story short the garage didn’t fix it in 2 visits ( they re-fitted drain tube and resealed the pollen filter) so I stripped the glove box out to see where the water was coming from and then drove it round to the garage so they could see the exact problem.
Basically it looks like the Air Con unit is leaking somewhere around the drain nozzle at the base of the unit. It looks as though the nozzle is a part of the unit and the drain tube is pushed onto this nozzle and then exits the car through the passenger footwell to the outside. It’s impossible to see exactly where the leak is until the unit is stripped out the car for inspection. The techie told me these are sealed units so if it’s leaking its most likely cracked somewhere and will probably need a new unit ordered to fix the problem. Obviously until they remove the unit they can't say for definite.
Has anyone else had this problem as I know water in the passenger footwell is fairly common so someone might have had a leaking Air Con unit?
What scares me is that the garage have said they will most likely need the car for 3 days as they have to strip the dashboard out of the car to get to the unit!!!!!!
I thought the Air Con unit looked fairly accessible by just removing the glove box but does anyone know what amount of interior stripping is required to get the unit out??
I have premonitions of lots of squeaks coming from the dash once I get the car back
