Air conditioning problem

Hi, my air con will not stay on all the time. If I press the button the icon will come on the LCD display but when I release the button it goes off instead of staying on .
This is an intermittent problem. Any ideas anyone ?????

AC turns off when the external temp is below ~3 °C to drop damage to the unit. Once it is warmer outside it will let you have AC again

Careful when it does it though, mines steamed up like a sauna the other night when it switched off.
Only took a matter of seconds and I was on he motorway at the time in the dark
