Air con

Just spent half hour trawling through all past threads about aircon....
right i now understand that after 2-3 years they need re-gassed
well my air-con doesnt get as cold as it used to so im taking it that from what i have read that this is the problem
what i would like to understand is why does it need re-gassed
i assume that it works the same way a fridge works so how come they dnt need re-gassed?
where does the gas go:confused: how does it get out if there isnt any leaks?

hope i dont appear to blonde but this confuses me!!!:headhurt:

help!!!

thanks

They can leak and also natural seepage is normal hence needing to re-charge. Lots of places now do checks for free including halfrauds, this will tell you if it needs regassing. Re-fil = £50 ish or buy a bottle and do it yourself.

a fridge has all it's working parts sealed (hermetic) where as the compressor has an external drive and there are several connectors on the system, a can of gas complete with pipe, fitting guage and trigger is approx £25-30 if you feel brave, it's not that difficult and with luck you'll have plenty of gas left for next year
