Hum, sounds around the correct price when you consider the hours needed to complete this job. I have a horrible feeling that that is what is wrong with my wife's 2015 VW Polo 1.2TSI 110PS SEL, getting the system recharged every year for the past few years works as up here in Scotland Summer only lasts 6 weeks max. So on that car it is still possible to recharge it legally.
I bought a new condenser a few years ago, and would like to think that I am willing to get the front bumper off and visually examine the whole area of it, just to finally accept that it is or is not the condenser, I have a pumped leak checker, but even checking the system - under the bonnet and sniffing the cabin vents, I can't find any leak areas/sites, very annoying.
Evaporators failing is well known for this size of VW Group car of this age range!
The pressure sensor on these cars gets its design improved every other month/year, or used to, as they started leaking, but that should have been checked already and visually you can check to see if there is any evidence of system oil having misted out around that item.
