Air con delete

Many peeps will probably find this mod "extreme" for a road car but it is a toy to me. Been doing a lot of logging on this car including with Al. The air con rad sit in front of the intercooler. So obviously the airflow has increased drastically. Logging charge temps vs ambient temps there was 3 degrees difference maxing at 6 on full load. The biggest thing is the decreased timing pull. Across the bored on settings that used to pull upto 3 degrees timing there is now zero across the board. For people who don't mind not having aircon it's a good mod to have

Thanks for the feedback! Did you just remove the rad or completely delete it including pump and so on? Any advise on the work involved in removing it?

it might be something i do eventually,i hardly use the A/C

i think you remove the rad, and fit a smaller belt not sure what else

id imagine you would have to remove the compressor and rad then fit a smaller belt.

ofcourse you could just remove the rad, and turn the AC off so the clutch doesnt engage, but if / when the motor siezes and it decides to take the belt with if, you'll soon know about it.

Compressor, radiator pipe work and fit small belt, had a comparison with a car I know is close to me In performance terms and the car is defo faster, engine mounts are great as well

What happens to all the wiring and air con switch inside the car? Does it throw any errors?

It'll throw errors but not fault lights. You could also code it out on some units.

You need to have the R134 a removed before attempting removing any part of your air conditioning system , any knowing release of refrigerant into the atmosphere is a criminal offence which carries a hefty fine.

You're supposed to have a minimum f-gas qualification before touching any part of the system too.

A stone going through the core or a dodgy connection in the pipes = uncontrolled release of gas

i am certified to handle Refrigerant gas. If i happened to be in my workshop, i would use my a/c machine to recover all gas in the system.

saying that, the last 3 condensors i have replaces, i just unbolt it and go make a cuppa.

The place I used to work for were more than happy to let the gas straight out into the atmosphere, the arse holes.

Did everyone just change the belt and not worry about blanking were the two pipes go into the heater behind the engine

One comes off - covered and tied the other up.
