AGG Engine pipes

I have just started cleaning the engine bay on my Toledo with 12 years of crap its not a fun job. I have however noticed a number of cracks on airline pipes and its disturbing. I know that lost air slows my car down etc but I can not for the life of me find a replacement!

Off the top of the engine there is a small black squeare held on by two screws and a slip pipe. One goes towards the airfilter tube and one back into the egine. The one to the engine has a crack the size of a ten pence piece in it. Seat (Wonderful commpany) want £155 +VAT for the complete hole set and have told me I can not just buy the top section!

Any ideas where I can pick one up from and also when it is, be it vacumn hose of iairintake etc.

Thanks people!

Breather pipes. Fed back into the air intake for pollution control, so that the oily vapours get burned in the engine. As yours isn't turbocharged there will be less of an issue with this pipe being split, you won't be loosing boost. You could always try cleaning any oil and dirt off and then wrapping it with duct tape. The box on top of the engine appears to be a pressure regulating valve.

No idea what the narrower hose at the top is, sorry.

Thank for your help with the big pipes I have covered them in gaffer tape whilst i try to locate a replacement. I do not know what the pipe at the tiop is either however I pulled it off earlier with the engine running and after a hughe blast of air leaving the engine and pipe the car died. it wont start unless that pipe is attached? lol at least I know how to cut the engine when im working on it without having to turn it off ;-)

From the sound of things it is a vacuum pipe. Pretty big diameter though. Where does the other end of the pipe go to?

the other end of thew pipe goes to a box with a siemens logo on in. Its situated drivers side about 6 inches from the headlight next to the airfilter chamber

I think this can only be the evaporative emission control system, which leads fuel vapour from the tank vent through a charcoal filter then on into the engine. There should be a valve with an electrical connector (which could be the box with the Siemens logo), then a cylindrical charcoal canister, then a pipe going back to the top of the fuel tank.

When you disconnected it, the massive amounts of umetered air made the mixture too weak. If the tubing leaks, I'd guess the engine will be running too lean, which is not a good idea.

I'm getting all my info out of my old Mk.2 Ibiza manual, as this engine was fitted to those cars too. It could well be worth asking your question in the Mk. 2 Ibiza section of the forum, there should be some posters there with current experience on this engine.
