Aftermarket Stereo Illumination Problem

I've put a JVC head unit in my Leon Cupra, it works fine but is always in night mode due to the dashboard being permanantly illuminated. As a result the display is always dull.

Does anybody know how i can get my head unit to go into night mode only when i turn the lights on? I don't want to put a switch in really.

Thanks stpete

I think i'll just cut the wire at first (the orange one) so that it is permanantly in day mode. If this annoys me at night then i'll monkey around running a 12v line from somewhere.

I'm slightly concerned that if i cut into the 12V line from the light switch then the ECU will detect a slight variation in voltage or current which may flag up a warning light on my dash, modern cars are too clever for their own good.
