Hi,

I've got a T-reg Mk2 Ibiza Cupra Sport GTI that I use for short oval racing (stock car track). I've found that its not really quick enough and hasn't got enough grip. As far as I know its completely standard. Can anyone suggest any modifications that would help, and some 'reasonably priced' wheels and tyres that would give more grip? I would also like to fit a rollcage, does anybody know where I could get one?

Thanks for your time

Andrew

don't bother with the crap advice above.

Same as most fwd cars... suspension, anti roll bars, powerflex bushes, lsd, u can change the final drive in the gearbox from 3.68 to 3.94 and thats hell of a differance.

Power wise cheapest to do is filter, exhuast and decat!

Tyres not chea but next on my list R888's

I've been trackdaying an 8v GTi for the past 5 years - my mods are in my sig. The only thing I'd add to DinkyDave's advice is rear spacers - 15mm. The standard Ibiza has a narrower rear track than front. Spacers plus ARBs make a big difference.

In terms of tyres, I've been running Colway Formula 2 for years but unfortunately they went bust. However a Polish firm called Markgum bought the moulds and have gone into production - got a brand new set ready to go at Castle Combe next Saturday. Anyway, they are designed as a tarmac rally stage tyre - sticky but with a 20% tread. About £50 a corner and I'm getting 4 - 5 trackdays out of a set.

Ah, the one other thing I forgot to say is lose weight! I've stripped mine out and it makes a big difference as per my sig - the stat's I'm running in terms of 0-60 and 1/4mile are more like a 16v than an 8v.

The one thing I forgot lol

Could always get the suspension/coilovers set up, corner weighted etc..... can set it up to handle better on left or right turns (depends whatever way you run the circuit).
