Hi guys i just received my plates from the net which im dead pleased with!!

but i was wondering how to fix them onto my mk2 cupra sport!?? i dont want to rip the screw covers off on my original plates as they seem well fixed on as they have never bin changed over the years!?

i was thinking of double sided sticky pads yet worried that tey might just fall off?

anyone had a similar dillema??

Halfrauds sell double sided sticky pads for this exact purpose - but they are expensive for what you get in the pack so you may find something cheaper in a stationers. Just make sure you clean both the back of the plate and the car where you intent do stick them. Use something like a surgical wipe or the fluid used for cleaning cassette player heads (i.e. a high alcohol based liquid).

I've got sticky industrial velcro on mine so I can take my road plates off and put my trackday plates on in 5 seconds.

In terms of getting your old ones off - chances are that if they are the originals, then the screw heads are likely to have rusted to oblivion (mine had) so you might need to cut the screw heads off using something like a dremel, take the plate off, then try and remove the screw using pliers, or if the worst comes to the worst, trim the screw back to flush with the bumper using the dremel again.

I have some door sills too what do ya thinkg would be the best way to fix them.....double sided tape again or industril glue?? lol

Or vodka, one for the plate one for me :) (please don't drive after carryin out this)

I think velcro is best, I have lost numberplates on several occasions due to double sided tape.

Will be using velcro based sticking stuff for when I get show plates made up

I HAVE THE ANSWER FOR YOU

NO-Nails heavy duty adhesive tape.

Its been recommended by the pPolice as it takes 50lb's of force to pull them off, which means the number plates will fall off in the process, so nobody can nick them.

its £4.99 in Halfords and DIY shiops
