Hi guys,

I've got a Cupra R with no mods, the only thing I want to do is to stick some better speakers in the car, my budget is only about £200 for amp and speakers. I don't want a big subwoofer, just a nice clear sound.

Where's the best place to place the amp in the car? Could I get away with putting it under the passengers seat?

I don't mind buying second hand equipment either.

Cheers,

jake

i would say to go for a very good headunit, imo the std speakers react very well to a good soucre, the difference in just a budget kenwood is night and day to the std unit.

Agreed on the above. I would change the HU first, at £200 you can get a very good HU for that price.
I was speaking to an Audio guy in Glasgow and he recommeded doing the following if you are wanting better sounds in your car:

1) Replace OEM HU
2) Replace OEM Speakers
3) Add Amp
4) Add Sub

For a lot of us, options 1) and 2) will suffice.

Cool, I'll look for an aftermarket headunit, any recommendations for around £150? ...If it had some USB connection on the front for a memory stick that would be my only preference.

I've had subs in previous cars; I know I definatley don't want one in this car.

as long as its one of the good named brands you should be fine, ive found if you go to halfords sometimes they have end of lines etc, there was a very good alpine unit reduced from £200 to £150 iirc

theres no need to spend £150 on a unit if your spending it for the hell of it.You can get alpine units with front USB connection for around £110>

You can then put the rest towards speakers, amps and sound deadening.
If you get an alpine unit also you could purchase an Alpine KTP 445 unit which is an inline 4 channel amp and boosts the headunit from 18w rms to 45w rms per channel,no hassle with wiring then :)

speaker wise id highly recommend the hertz dieci range for around 70-80 quid as these work well with the alpine units and these have no crossovers so again are a doddle to fit

Hello again, been busy last few days, not had a chance to read up on replies.

In my Cupra I have a 6-disc CD-Changer wired up and also an iPod dock (don't know how this is wired in, but I don't use it anyway as I don't have and don't want an iPod).

Anyways, what adaptors will I need? I've noticed that the standard unit seems to be about an inch wider than single DIN units, what CD-Changer adaptor would I need to get?

I'm not bothered about the speakers for the time being, they seem to be more than adequate for what I want, just changing the headunit.

And just out of interest really, can you buy headunits that have a dimmer facility that can be wired in with the dashboard dim switch because when I dim the dash, the lights on the standard radio also dim which is a pretty cool feature, but I doubt there's an aftermarket HU that will support this?

Thanks,
