Advice needed: GIAC remap 310 or 330bhp?

Advice needed please!
I visited my local GIAC dealer to enquiry about the remap for the cupra,was offered a very good price however I was given the option for two remaps the 310bhp or the new 330bhp 'hammer' remap, which several S3 have now been fitted with. Unsure about which option I should go for? What effect would the higher power have on the cupra engine? Can anyone advise me which map should I have fitted? Cheers:confused:

Have you seen a graph of the 330bhp one.Just wondered how flat it is compared to other 310bhp maps or have you got one big spike to achieve the results.My concern would be fueling.

not seen any graph yet, yes one concern is the fuel. I have seen reviews from s3 owners who appear to have had no problems yet, but how different is the engine?

it's not the same engine code, but the S3 runs a larger FMIC

I think some information over 'how' they've got this extra 15bhp would be required.

more boost? greater heat?

I think the answer is "nobody knows".

Someone's got to be first, though. Do you fancy trying it?

If not prepared to be first, I would say you're hardly going to notice 15bhp, anyway.

Ask 'em if there's an upgrade from "normal" to "hammer"...

Are you going for the switch to change back to stock?

If yes i'd ask the dealer if he could upgrade you at a later date for £30 , the cost of the extra maps/settings on your switcher!

As it is a new map not alot is known about it, it is VERY early days for the 330bhp map in the real world anyway! ( they test there cars for 6month before they put out a map )

GIAC maps are very smooth i hear , no peaks just smooth power right to the limiter, two of the lads on here have them and there very happy , ive not heard a bad word or of any problems whatsoever!

I'LL be getting may car remapped by them in March/April , there is a S3 RR day at Awesome on the 8th of march so gonna hang fire to see what the different maps put out!

You never know, GIAC could be so far ahead of the game the rest are playing catch up?

If it were my money/car i'd ask about the upgrade via the switcher at a later date , if not i'd get the 310bhp map!

Better to be safe than sorry!

Not sure who else do GIAC. There is a car getting done at Star this weekend I understand and an Ed30 getting done there again next Monday. I know the lad with the Ed30 so hoping to get a look at the print off to see how its done.

Certainly from the people I have spoken to, it is likely the rev limit is raised a bit to achieve the power. Higher power is going to need higher boost, more air and more fuel. The limiting factor on the Ed30/Cupra/S3 is the fuel, and more boost will equal more heat. There have been stories on so many forums about TFSi engines and fuel cuts, engines running lean etc especially in America, and GIAC is of course an American company. Hopefully the code for the S3/Cupra/Ed30 is done with UK/Eurpoean considerations in mind and the UK/European cars will be fine - I am sure they will be as it would be foolish for the likes of GIAC to put out an untested/poor remap.

It will be interesting to see how well the hammer map is done, and even better to see the wheel horsepower rather than the calculated fly horsepower. It will be good to see air/fuel and boost/temperature logs too.

With regard to power figures, my last car made 249 fly bhp but only 197 wheel bhp. On another rolling road, my stock MK2 Leon made 257 fly bhp and 220 wheel horsepower. Dyno lottery will be an issue until two identical cars with identical mods, but with different maps go on the same rolling road on the same day one after another.

To be honest, I think that the hammer map will do what it says on the tin, but I am not sure that I would be wanting to run that power permanently with no other modifications like a bigger intercooler, better air intake and a free flowing exhaust system.

For sure, it is likely the GIAC cars will be the fastest TFSi K04 Turbo cars out there :)

Over on Audisport.net there is a thread called " GIAC Offical Response " where one of the lads emailed one of GIAC's tech's in the states with questions regarding fears of the Hammer map.

In short it is recommeded that you DON'T add anymore hardware > ie a miltek when using the hammer file.

GIAC are aware of the fuel limits of the TFSI engaine , and any fuel cut issues that happend in testing were at MAX boost not MAX power.

If your car is healthy the the Hammer map is 100% safe on a stock car, or you could go the other route and get the 310bhp map , and add Miltek, intercooler and filter to make your power!

I have at home my ECU with stage 2 and milltek complete system plus CAI from forge, I will go to dyno next month so I will let you know what power car will have, I just hope that I will not have some problems with fuel.
