hey guys just wanting some advice as my last attempt turned into a disaster, i used red hamerite metal paint and painted the back wheel drum and went for a drive a few hours later to the horror of it all melted off.... later to read [:@]4 hours dry on the tin (i went out at about 3), however other have said its due to the heat of them and they cannot be painted ? however i was wondering if it was just because it wasnt 100% dry? :S ....any way... would this paint work on the front calipers? as i was told these dont get as hot etc?

cheers for any help :D

You need some high temperature paint.

You can paint drums no problem with the right paint. See barryboys.co.uk for examples of 'powerdrums'.

drums of poowwaaarhhh!

i used a tin of caliper paint from halfrauds which cost 5.99. used about 1/10th of the tin doing all 4 calipers and carriers and the cam cover and its got a very good finish.

If you're going to paint it, paint it black.

I see a red drum and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black.

drums arent worth painting unless they are brand new as all the surface rust makes it look a complete mess. no point trying to show off brake drums, better off painting them black like AlpineWhite suggested.

+1

Please don't paint the drums, unless it is black, which is what I was going to do. But you can't see them with the wheels spaced so its all good :)

hammerite should be fine mate

Im sure you need to leave it alot longer than 3 hours though

I've used hammerite to paint front calipers & engine rocker covers with no problems

I painted my front callipers and rear drums blue using halfords own Brake Caliper Paint in a tin.
In my opinion the drums don't actually look too bad in blue, I hate it when I see them red!
Might go for black after reading this thread though, not sure. lol

Can't actually find the paint I used on the halfords website. I have the tin right in front of me.
The barcode is "5 015025 363387"
Looks exactly the same colour as
bluecaliper.jpg
, and I'm very pleased with the result.

This looks similar to kiwi? No idea where you'd get it from though :(
