Actual 0-60 time?

Hi,

I've been reading and watching videos of stock 1.2TSI FR's (not DSG) doing 0-60 in less than the stated 9.8s, can anyone back this up? I've never actually timed my 0-60 but it does feel quicker than 9.8s to be fair.

Videos would be good too!

Yeah mate, really happy with it. Had for about 9 months now, no problems with it what so ever, really nippy and practical, looks good too!

Yeah mate, makes a whole a lot of difference. A 1.2 turbo is probably the equivalent of a 1.6 or maybe even 1.8 naturally aspirated engine by my comparison!

It certainly feels faster than the stated time, although I think it's pretty much accepted that the 1.2TSI engine is slightly underrated when it comes to the official figures on BHP, so I wouldn't be surprised if it is towards the lower 9sec mark.

There was another thread on here where somebody had installed the 0-60 timer on their satnav system from the Cupra's nav system. They said it had a reading of 8.3 seconds (everything stock) - although I don't think it is totally accurate.

I guess a lot of it counts on conditions/engine parameters. I feel that sometimes my engine is running in the 'sweet spot', where it is really responsive and other times (mostly in the cold) it just won't have the same response.

Ah well, that's my take/experience on it! Let us know if you manage to find any recorded times :)

Absolutely no chance it is doing 0-60 in 8.3 seconds but as you say that sat nav timer is not going to be accurate.

You'd have to be a god at changing gears and have amazing tyres/conditions etc to even slightly beat the official stated 9.8 seconds tbh

Yeah I'd agree with the lower 9s mark, I've also seen that thread and agree that it's almost definitely inaccurate - I've left a few cars at the lights with quicker 0-60 times, however that's also not accurate because I could've simply shifted better/quicker than them, just curious that's all!

Think I might have to time it and see for myself!

I agree here. Just this morning my engine felt so free revving and 'fast' it was a joy to drive and felt faster than it should be...

Sometimes the opposite happens where it feels really bogged down, particularly in stuffy warm temperatures or just day when the ambient conditions may not be the best.

I think it's all down to the ambient conditions at the time :)

This should explain why you experience differences in turbo performance http://www.aet-turbos.co.uk/blog/story/turbos-and-temperature-summer-weather-and-turbocharger-performance

Pick up car next monday, due to work commitments.
Can't wait. I am like a kid,not sleeping well !!!!!!!!!!!
Had to have to test drives, love the car, but concerned on power, great from start, but a bit slow on overtaking point of you.
Will be something i will have to adjust to coming from a diesel !!!!!!!!!!!
Great spec, smooth ride. Might have to get it remapped !!!!!!!!
Thanks for your reply

Sounds good mate!

I've noticed a few former diesel owners on here saying the same after their test drives, but trust me you won't be disappointed with the overtaking power etc. You've just got to get used to the high/er revving engine! It keeps on going til' 6k rpm, gets a bit sluggish in 5th but that's expected I suppose!

thanks for info.
When i went from petrol to diesel i couldn't believe the acceleration in 5th gear.
Do still wait untill engine is warm before booting, like in a diesel ?
Looking forward to monday ;)

I say sluggish, but that's just in comparison to the lower gears I suppose! The one thing mine is missing is a 6th gear for motorway cruising.

I tend to wait until the Sat-Nav's oil temperature gauge is at 90 degrees, I know it isn't entirely accurate but it's a good enough guideline I suppose, 3-5 miles of driving until I really go for it though!

I bet you are!

It doesn't matter if a car is petrol or diesel you always wait until it's up to temp before giving it beans.
