Hey

Recently when i accelerate hard when the car sitting in low revs the revs climb really heavily and then drop again, its as if the engine is goin without the turbo and then the turbo kicks in??

Any ideas on wat the problem cud be?? As got proper no cash at moment and dont really fancy an expensive trip to the dealers

Typical as my warranty ran out about 3months ago :(

Sounds like a turbo boost issue probally caused by a dodgy dv valve especially if its the factory one.

Yes you need a new clutch. That is your clutch slipping.

Is your car remapped? Does it only happen below 3500rpm and usually in the higher gears?

If your car is remapped, then there is no point in putting a standard clutch back in, you'll need an uprated clutch and that will cost you anywhere between £600-1200 inc fitting

What are the symptoms and what do you mean revs rise heavily? You mean quickly? What is your mileage?

Ive just had mine replaced due to exactly the same thing, with same symptoms!

Surely if the clutch was slipping then the revs would continue to rise as its slipping yet speedwise you will experience a loss?

No it half sort of engages, hence the term slip. The clutch cannot sustain the torque as the friction plate lining is so worn that the torque overcomes the normal pressure applied by the pressure plate! With a lot of material on the friction plate, the 2 normally mate up and hold the torque and transmit it from the engine to the gearbox. When it is worn there is nothing to grip it against the pressure plate

The revs will rise a lot quicker than the speedo needle, it looks strange as they are not in ordinary sync with each other but the speedo will still rise a little as it is still accelerating even when slipping, but very slowly! When the clutch has passed peak torque the friction disc bites with the pressure plate and the clutch fully engages. The revs drop a little or stutter and then things rise as normal, but will only do this way after peak torque is reached!

It definitely sounds like clutch and not turbo as its happening at low rpm and has all the symptoms i had only about a month back

if you stick it in 6th at 40mph and apply full throttle - does it do it then?

Does sound like your clutch though. do you do a lot of 'hard' starts or crawling in traffic?

Its a 4-5hr labour job so £200-£250 alone in labour.

And then depending on what price the clutch is, on top of that.

If your car is staying standard, just buy the standard clutch, it will be fine. I have no idea on cost for a standard clutch but knowing SEAT it will probably be expensive.

Im 95% sure it is your clutch mate but it may not be, let us know how you get on!

Dumped the car in the garage this mornin and they said defo the clutch, and that will be 580 but they said that the leon has a dual flywheel or somethin like that that may have gone as well and will let me know when they swap the clutch so cud go upto 900 :(

The car has perhaps been remapped before and when sold to you the previous owner reverted it back to standard mode?

I would have thought wearing the clutch out at standard power, the clutch would last 80,000miles+

Are you a lazy driver? Do you put it in 5th at 30mph? 6th at 40mph, and then keep it in that gear to overtake?

That is very bad for your clutch, you need to drop it down or at least get the revs up over 3250rpm before overtaking!

You shouldnt need a flywheel. I never needed 1 and it had been running with a slipping clutch for a while and putting 350-400lbft through it!

Mines only got 15k on the clock, surely I don't need a new clutch already?!

I'm having a similar prob with mine, go to punch the power and it goes but gets to just over 3k revs and is almost like it's freezing and then all of a sudden the power is back.

Also, noticed if cruising along at 100mph+ it tends to run a bit coughy spluttery :(

SEAT over in Stockport are collecting it on Fri 27th, ring me when they discover what's wrong with it and whether or not it's covered on my warranty and then it'll be dropped back by 4pm all nice and clean :D

The give away on the clutch is the revs rising out of sync with the speedo needle! It looks strange!

You didnt mention this in your post so it is unlikely to be a clutch problem. Your problem sounds more MAF related:)

Yes but he has only done 15k miles so the clutch integrity would have to be questioned unless he is running stupid power or the car has been clocked! It may be his driving style also, a lazy 5th/6th gear driver will wear the cluch down quick!

I do think though after only 15k miles, it should be changed under warranty. Who knows:shrug:

Must admit i am tempted to try and get something off of seat as my car is totally standard and for the clutch to fail at 40k just 2months OOW seems to suk

It does indeed but I think you'll be lucky to get anything out of them. If the car had half the miles and was still in warranty you might have a chance...

Good luck though.

SEAT2believeit - Let us know how you get on but I doubt that your issue is clutch related.

Even if you still had 2 months of warranty left it is very unlikely they would change it for you you free of charge! It is a wear item and with 40k it is possible to wear the clutch out especially with bad driving habits!

Resting foot on clutch, accelerating in high gears when at low revs etc will wear the clutch down quickly! I know you said you havent been doing that but what about previous driver? Was the car mapped before? Has the mileage been fiddled with?

Worth a try i suppose but a long shot! Did you need a new flywheel?
