Acceleration Issue

Has anyone else suffered this.... I have a 55 plate 1.4 16v Ibiza Sport. I've started noticing that I go to accelerate sometimes and it doesn't go. To start with I thought it was just me being far to chilled out with the pedals but after paying a bit more attention to it I've noticed it's not me. Some times I can drive and it won't be an issue at all, it normally happens when I really need to get a move on like at roundabouts and pulling out onto busy roads. I put my foot down to go and the car slowly pulls away like it has all the time in the world and then after me panicking it will suddenly spring into action and go.

Any clues people?

Sounds like a MAF issue to me. Mine seems to do it every now and again, and a guy at work had a similar issue to this.

my 1.4 did the same, think it was a case of more revs.. it just seemed like there was pretty much no power from 1k - 1500 ish revs!

sounds like she isnt going to be puling away at 1000 revs or 1500 revs

Is yours the 100bhp model? Mine is, and I seem to have the same problem with mine. Would be interested to know if there is anything I can do to improve it.

Unplug the maf sensor and if this stops the problem then it's a MAF issue. Get it done under warranty.

The 1.4 is an utter dog in first when pulling off. You aint going nowhere quick until you hit what I call the magic zone which is 3000rpm

The 1.4 is known to be a "hestitant" engine as all other 1.4 sport owners will be able to tell you, and thats why many reckon the 1.2 is a better engine choice because its just as fast as the 1.4 unless you are really good at launching the bloody thing. Once you hit 3rd gear its easily bye bye to 1.2's though.

Supposedly a £200 remap makes it more responsive. Suppose you could always get a 2 hour free trial and see if it makes any difference if your that bothered about it

I've had this car for almost 2 years and this problem has only started in the past few months. I haven't found that it's an utter dog when first pulling away, normally it's really good, this doesn't happen all the time. It's really slow like it's just rolling (even with foot to floor) and then will suddenly kick in and pull away.

i didt really notice anythink with my last one but now again again it was a bit less responsive...

It all depends what revs you are at. If the car is rolling along at 5-10mph and you put your foot down there is a slight delay before anything happens and then when it does you still aint going anywhere quick. Because of it its made me look like a right mug a couple times when attemtping to quickly join in on a roundabout and just about maiking it but pissing off other drivers at the same time

Sounds like a 1.4, sorry but they aren't the quickest of things!

Technique is everything, my mates 1.8T golf is the same froma dead stop, but rev it up to 3-4k then it moves!
