ABS and TCS Light Permanently Lit Up!!! Help .......

Hello all,

First of all what a cracking site - i used to have a Vectra 2.6 V6 GSI and used a similiar site to this, but this is by far better and more informative!!!!

Anyway onto the problem ......................

I have a Leon, 20v Turbo 2001 - Whilst driving in the icy conditions this week the TCS light has been flashing on constantly as you would expect.

However whilst driving the light on the dash board, ABS and TCS, came on together and have since stayed on!!!! I have driven slow/fast, hard breaking/light breaking/no braking .... to see if i can rectify the matter however they just stay on!

I have turned off the ignition and re-started the car - but they remain on!

I have even washed them just in case they were dirty - but to no effect!

Can anyone help? Why would they come on and stay on?

Thanks

Sparky

You could remove the battery and let it reset the ecu as long as you have everything like radio codes etc. This will reset the fault lights and see if they come back on. Personally though i would find someone with vag com to see what the actual faults are.

I think when my clutch pedal sensor went those 2 lights came on but it could be anything.

What exactly is this Vag Com business? From what i have read is it where you connect the car to the computer and it just fault finds?

Had a similar thing with my old car and Vauxhall charged £55 each time they plugged it in!

Possibly an expensive job then?

u can get a shareware version of the progam from www.ross-tech.com , and an ebay cable for about 20 quid ( serial cables are best ) thatll let u find codes etc , for the full package see the ross tech site , am sure if u were to give out ur location , a local with the software would do it for u

Thanks for that!

I have been out in the car and driven 5 miles without either of the lights coming on. But then when i came back to the car and started it both the lights remained on!

It's a bit of a pain really as i dont want to get ripped off at the Seat Dealer where i live.!!!!

Looked at some of the software link as well - but it looks a bit too technical for me!

Hopefully it will not be a process of elimination with this fault as i know it can quite expensive!

Thanks

sparky, I have just got vag com and a cable, a little daunting at first but if you get stuck im sure the guys on here will help you. My dealer charged me £55 to plug it into there machine and could not even find the problem.
Plugged my cable into vag com and confirmed my suspicions of a faulty maf, worth the investment and fairly easy to use. I can give you a link for where I bought my interface cable for vag com, cheers

Now then!!!!

I have been to my Local SEAT dealer and managed to get them to hook me up to the VAG COM system.

45 Minutes later they came back to me and stated that there are NO faults?? They have checked everything and nothing is showing up as a 'fault'.

The only thing that did show us was a 'Sporadic' Message in the ABS Pump. However they state to me that the ABS System is working and nothing wrong with the said pump.

They have no idea and i have no idea! I did have to top up my brake fluid a few weeks ago so i thought maybe an air block could cause this?

They reset the ABS and TCS lights and told me that they probably would not come back on - as soon as i started the car they stayed lit up!!!

Back to the drawing board? I think so .......... Maybe a brakefluid change ?

Apparently they use one of the older systems that Audi and VW used to use. I think it's the same sort of thing as VAG COM - It was hooked up to the computer system anyway!

Where abouts did you get your stuff from (for VAG COM) and is it easy to use/operate?

See sticky at top of this section.

BTW is your car down on power? If ABS system is OK it could be a dead MAF but that car would be down on power??
