ABF Radiator, Dimensions?

ok so today i changed the slam panel, as the rad just doesn't want to reach the top (so the mount can be put in place)

the new slam panel has the same (well minus the broken leg)

so now it has me thinking the radiator is wrong

can someone pretty please measure their ABF rad dimensions (rough) and some pics if possible so i can see how mine differs, as i might have one tomorrow, but not sure if it's right!

does the rad have something sitting on the bottom of it? as mounts or something?

thanks in advance!

Rad and slam panels will differ depending on if it's got air con or not

Pretty sure the measurements are on vagcat ;)

slam panel is right, off a non-AC ABF post-facelift (same as the one that was on there before minus the broken leg)

really? i can't find measurements off vagcat?

thanks flapper, yeah i had them codes already, just didn't know why this rad is wrong! it's annoying me!

(it's a bit wierd having AC in the title, yet that's for the car with NO-AC lol)

i just wanna know if there are other mounts to raise the radiator which i haven't got? i got them rubber mounts for the top, but is there any for the bottom?

could i be cheeky and ask for a pic when you get time please mate, i need to visualise this, as it's doing my nut in, i wanna use my car already! :censored:

thank you boys!

dont let the magic mystery of the Part Numbers get to ya, believe you me it's worse than looking for one of the hobbit's rings at time :)

bottom mount is basically a washer for locating the rad's lower pegs

thanks flapper, i had a look at them washer things, but are they really gonna make the rad sit that much higher?
are they quite thick?

hopefully this new rad will be the right size, or i'm fecked lol

could i get longer M10 bolts?

thanks as per usual mate, you're "god" lol

washers are more an anti vibration and onyl a few mm high although i must admit i think mine's held in with longer bolts or a bigger rubber or both, been a while mind.

bottom brackets can be a little too forgiving sadly

The radiator just sits on 2 holes on the slam panel, with a rubber bit infront of it to direct the air up to the radiator and not underneath it.

Im positive mine just pushed forward and it was in place once I put the 2 M10 bolts right down.

that is exactly what i thought mate, thanks clears that up for me, will i be able to get the nuts from B&Q/Hardware store? i thought all M10 bolts are the same length

cos i'm sick of my rad moving about!

M10 is the size of the threaded part or girth that's all but length is optional or as required but ye Wickes or B+Q etc, any local hard ware store

if you get stuck i have a box load at work may get ya out of trouble - just let me know what length you need

thanks mate, i knew it was the bolt size etc. but thought it just had a 'x' length for m1-m(infinity) so went up in certain length! thanks mate, will see how this bloody rad fits first taa mate! you're a legend!

let me know how you get on, might inspire me to fix mine in properly :p

well i found a way around the movement flapper, i put the new rad in, was "taller" but not tall enough

so i had to sacrifice a bumper hole, and put the M10 (that was meant to go on the top of the rad) and you know how the rad has screw holes on the side so the fan can be attached, well it fitted straight into the side, and will not move now :D it looks OEM too lol

but now a new problem, i think the head gaskets gone, the oil light is flashing, and is smoking alot, i dunno whether it is condensation/oil (was too dark now when i put it all together to check) but why else would the oil light be on? there is definitely no oil leak! :censored:

just my bloody luck! gonna have to sort it out when my student loan comes through in jan, funds are low/weather is she-ite!

hands are chopped to pieces from the rad etc. had to put it together in the rain/dark so i could make it to Mega Meet in cov, gutted really!

any tips for HG? i can get head fully skimmed etc for £40 (a mate knows people from working at GSF)
anything else to be done while i am at this? (and no high-lift cams etc lol)

first step - don't run away with yaself

check the oil/water etc etc and don't forget this wet/cold time of year exhausts are gonna look like pit chimney's, just started up a Honking great Chevy Corvette and it's been running 20 mins and still steaming out the back

what and why was it apart for in the first place ? and what ya done so far ?

what do you mean mate? i haven't done nothing yet lol
it's still as one piece, i meant taking the whole front off for the rad lol oops must of worded it wrong!

just when rad top pipe came off, it must of overheated the engine? correct?

I would be very surprised if it is the headgasket tbh. When I had the hole in my coolant tank and when the car got to running temp/pressure the coolants absolutely p:censored: out the hole.

Ended up running the car on just water to get home and my headgasket etc is all fine. I have some signs of condensation but none of the head gasket.

don't worry i had visions of you just putting it all together after a major strip that was all

over heated possibly but i would guess when the hose came off you stopped pretty soon after with all the steam etc ?
