ABF 16valve swap

Hi guys,

I currently have a 16v abf out of the vw golf, we never got this motor here in South Africa(very delayed). Seeing that you guys have the motors in your cars standard what would you recommend mods wise to acheive +-140kw on the flywheel? Im thinking Cams(268/272), slight headwork and management...

And to the guys who have these motors standard and modified...whats it like Im very curious.

My car is basically a cordoba but also not. We get the vw polo classic uses alot of seat parts with a few changes.Think they where built in brazil.

Whats you quarter mile times do you guys run with cams and headwork,remap?

Thats one clean engine, did you get it new? 200 bhp at the crank is achieveable easily enough (if not a tad expensive) search on here for rob t and f2 stu's posts.

Anything more than 268 cams and the stock engine manegment wont cope albeit remapped (chipped), have know ABF's with cams, head work, exhuast & remapped acheive 180-190 at the flywheel.

hey man no the engine is not new, in japan they scrap cars after a certain mileage and sell the parts of seperately. Its usually 60000km on the clock when they scrap it, so its just been run in . I did a bit of cleaning the moment it arrived!

Stu how does the motor handle the weight of the cordoba, accelartion through gears etc. Been on the 1/4mile strip yet? I have no choice but to go management as my current fuel injection will not cope properly.

wow, the car looks like a photoshop its that prestine and the engine looks new
coming from a 1.4 i can say the ABF puts a smile on my face everytime my foot sinks to the floor i need to video my induction kit so you guys can hear what it sounds like. sounds like ive got a turbo............ but i havent

Handle the weight? ok I suppose!

Not been up a 1/4 mile strip as its not really my thing, but goes all right when its not broken

Yip i mean most guys do the conversion to golf1's and they fly due to their weight advantage, the cordoba is obviously heavy and just wondering if the car still pulls nicely. At the moment i have a 2.0 8v with cam and feel its not strong enough...

This is the 3rd time of writing this, bloody computer lol

Everything that needs to be known about tuning the engine has been said. If you do go for stock mangement then 268 are very lumpy on idle.

With headwork, cams and remap you will see 180-190bhp as F2 Stu have said, if you want anything over 200bhp then its throttle bodies.... mmmm how I love the sound of them!!!

Here's a video of my car at Silverstone after I had the engine work done. You will hear the car before you see it, wait till after the red 106 I'm up the arse of a 200 odd bhp 20vT

I'm happy to be corrected but the engine will cope with wilder cams than 268s but it just won't pass UK emissions test.

Another factor to consider is that i will be running standalone managment, so would that allow me to run wilder cams safer? And would anything wilder than 268 really make much more power?

I'm on 275's but on throttle bodies & DTA ecu, not had the chance to put it through emmisions yet as I'm having a few teething issues.

Revs to over 8000rpm - then my flywheel became somwhat detached to the Crankshaft 6 days later

ouch! U looked very worried on the video Must have seen it coming...found videos of yours on the track but i cant hear the engine tone cause of the music, do you maybe have the uncut version of those?

Common guys would love to hear a cammed abf revving it up!
