my remote central locking has been a tad hit and miss for a whiel, so earlier, I decided to do the old restet trick (discussed on here often) ..did it all , all seemed to go well even being able to open/lock the car from my living room (about 30 yds from car).. went to pop out in it about 1/2 hour ago, and it wouldnt open on the fob.. no worries , Im used to it being intermittant so used the lock/key method. clambered in key in ignition, bugger wont start!
trying desperately to, strong smell of fuel, but nowt :(
must have tripped immobiliser

quickly tried the reset again , no joy.

Mk2's eh... dont you just love 'em

guess Ill be trying to reset the bleddy thing tomorrow then.......

because we know the car inside out, so if it goes wrong again, we know the culprit lol

i hope it's not immob, or you'll be paying stupid amounts like i did :( lol

then i wouldn't say it would be immob, mine had no key code (got uncoded lol) and would fire up!

checked the normal culprit...coil pack? mine was the same, went to my uncles garage (and didn't die there, how unlucky lol) then got home and wouldn't start!

still not starting.
Fob doesn't want to work the central locking , although key will open up everything, try to start car, it wants to , but wont. fuel smell ,so im hazarding a guess that no issue there... was fine yesterday, went out in it on the afternoon, sat and did the locking reset thing which seemed to work , even through the lounge window but now nowt

ive even tried jumping it off the mk4 but no.. doesnt want to

seems like I may have upset the immobiliser? if so is there any way thats not gonna cost me a damn fortune to get it reset? I do have Vag Com but Im pretty much a novice so if anyone knows how, if they can explain in *Divs English* i may be able to follow

got a spare coil ?

locking is self centred so won't affect immob, but if you have had it apart to change batteries or anything it's possible to lose the chip itself

is it firing and dieing or not kicking in at all ?

mine when coil went died but would just start/run if foot flat to floor then feathered

mine just sort of coughed when i pulled away at the lights, then worse when i left next set, then just dies away

sat there 10 mins with swiss army knife - checked fuel pressure and cap and rotor etc, got keys to work (100yds away) so robbed a box of new bits to fit if needed :) but had spark too - wierd

then all of a sudden foot flat open it popped and fired up

gently persuaded it home on part throttle to find was fine next morning but changed coil anyway

intermotor pt/no 12916 for reference

that one is module/coil combined so replace both types without an issue

just grabbed a lad that was calling next door to turn key for me while I took HT lead that runs down from coil to dizzy off and held at an angle to see if I got any spark.. nowt/zip/zilch/nada/nuffink.

*when I had issues before neighbour noticed the spark arcing out of that lead/connection as it was cracked etc, so new leads/rotor were fitted..

looks like it may be the coil then ?
