Today I said goodbye to my Toledo V5.

Rising costs of ownership(over £2500 in maintenance over the last year), together with the need for a 6 seater meant that today I traded it in towards a Mazda 5.

It's a shame Seat has lost it's way of recent years with only the latest Leon having any real appeal.

The New Toledo and Altea are ugly and the Alhambra is too big.

Why couldn't Seat spot the need for an attractive sporty small 6 seater?

Wow, what year V5 and what was the 2.5 grand spent on? I've not spent anything other than basic servicing and chosen mods in 2 years of ownership of my '99 model.

Here's a rough breakdown:

Front suspension replacement - about £450 *
Drivers electric window mechanism - about £150
Service including new discs and pads - about £450
MAF - about £250
Spark plugs - about £100
New steering rack - about £300*
News set of tyres(4) - £260
New sump - £250

* these items were due to pot hole and kerb incidents, however I've never had problems like this before and put it down to the very low ride height of the car.(Mine was unmodified).

Add on top of that insurance of £280.

Sad to hear your V5 has gone :(

£450 for front suspension seems a bit steep - having mine replaced in a couple of weeks for £200 (shocks + top mounts + labour).

I know it doesn't help with having to fork out for it all, but tyres, pads / discs, and plugs are standard consumables - your going to need to those what ever car your drive. And in my experience the V5 has been amazingly good on tyre and brake life.

Why a new sump - did it have a meeting with the deck at some point ?
Good luck with the new ride :)

Oh well, still a lot of money but really just over 1K of it was down to faults/damage. As Stu said, the rest are things we all pay just to run a car. At least your insurance doesn't cost as much as mine!

Hope to stick with mine for many years to come (kept my previous Mitsubishi for nearly 10 years) - but there's always a time when bills eventually outweigh the cost of the motor. If I had to change I would also consider Japanese but I tend to buy 4 year old used cars. Give it 5 years and I might be inline for a Mazda MPS or new Civic RR. Either that or perhaps Octavia VRS (not sure on interior though). I like the V5 for its subtlety and rarity, but sadly I can't see myself with a newer model Seat.
