Hey all, haven't shown my ugly mug on this for some time! So here's a quick christmas question.

Could any one tell me which colour wire the "Accessory switched connection of the ignition switch" is?

(96 Ibiza Mk2 obviously, otherwise this thread would be in the wrong place). Just need to sort out my radio / ignition issue.

Thanks :)

Im sure its the red wire which is already at the radio. Yellow is permenent and Red is switched. You need to swap the two when fitting an aftermarket radio.

at the ignition switch:

Black/yellow - Ignition live wire
Red/white - to starter solenoid
Black wire is constant live
the other is an ignition live and is live when ignition is at position 2 and when the starter is being turned... i dont know what colour it is though :D

Thanks a lot! Fitted my new radio, but it's still in the same state. It won't switch off on ignition, but will sound a beep when the door is opened (the same buzzer heard when headlights are left on).

Hmm sounds like you mustve wired into the headlight circuit somewhere. Did your car not come with preinstalled wiring for a radio?

Nah it's always been like that Mike. A reminder that I've left it on I guess... Yes it has come with preinstalled wiring. Which doesn't work unless I use an additional harness which is from my mum's audi, from like 5 years ago. Bearing in mind that there is an instrument lighting wire in there, I believe it's the Green / Blue on from the power block plug, which used to light up the OEM radio with the headlights when they're swtiched on (used to ilumate in red iirc?). So this additional harness (which is the only way it works) plugged in, it doesn't switch off with ignition.

Yes it did when I split off the black / yellow cable of the ignition, and replaced the original RED wire in the rear of the radio. It came on and off with ignition, but lost all memory after a miunte of being switched off. I have tried swapping yellow / red wires on the preinstalled cable of the radio and it didn't make any difference.

Hmm, guess you need to get a voltage tester or even a bulb and two wires and the wiring diagram for the radio and check the wires going in match up with what you want.

original wiring for the stereo... vehicle wire colours:

Brown - earth
Red - permanent live
Grey/blue - lighting feed
Blue/green - ignition live

usual aftermarket stereo wiring would be...

after market stereo wiring -//- Standard wiring

Black -//- Brown
Yellow -//- Red
Red -//- Blue / green <ignition live not illumination

made this ages ago for reference

Thanks a lot mate! I'll have a scan through. I doubt that the car wiring itself is wrong right? Might be the harness after the car's plug that's not correct?

Yeah man, cos the yellow one kinda stops on the harness connector (the additional cable I use, which it won't work without)... so I think it might be that that's wrong, Yellow cable doesnt go anywhere into the car's plug.

Confusing I know :)... But here's the pic showing the wires you had shown in your thread (the standard plug, then the additional harness I use before the preinstalled final cable into the radio.

EDIT: That red cable with a parallel blue snap connector on it, has since been changed back to the original red cable, when I'd finally understood that the problem didn't lie there, it was the harness.

cant tell what wires go where from that pic... but to make the stereo work you only need the battery +, ign + and earth
i dont know the wiring for the stereo obviously but 'usually' its as i posted previously with the first colour being that of the original cars wiring

Black -//- Brown
Yellow -//- Red
Red -//- Blue / green
