First of all i'm thinking of getting my cupra remapped to around 225bhp and was told it's better on mpg which i find this hard to believe:confused::)

I bought my cupra 3,4 weeks ago with 13500miles and for the past 2 weeks have smelt a curry sort of smell coming through the vents which im worried it could be the clutch.

Any ideas of the above?

Driven sensibly a remapped car, petrol or diesel can get higher MPGs than standard cars.

Regarding the smell, check your pollen filter to see if it's dirty as that could be creating the smell.

Yes you can get better MPG from a remapped car if driven sensibly as Altech says! A big part of a remap is to map the engine for better grade fuel (as we have some of the best in the UK!) instead of cheap crap that is only available in all of the other countries where the car is sold. It's easier for SEAT to put a general map on their cars than tailor it for each different country.

As for the smell, someone may have left a vindaloo in the engine bay!

A slipping/burning clutch wont smell like curry, lol...

As said, sensible driving round town and I normaly get 29-32mph. On a sensible long run I can get 40+mpg.
But once its remapped you tend to put your foot down a little more so your mpg will start to drop. Normaly low 20's after a good thrash for me....

Curry smell wont be the clutch mate, Clutch smell is the most horrific smell you'll experiance in the car.
Before you remap I would suggest a few mods really and then get a custom remap done.

I'm having the exhaust system replaced, Performance air filter, Forge TIp and a dump valve and they expect around 240 from my car which elsewhere is a "Stage 2" map.
But when you have it done custom there are no stages so its the same price!

Aye, it's foul. Holding the car on a 30 degree hill, for two sets or reds, on the clutch...I've never smelt anything quite like that before. This is good.

Cheers guys! autorads in sheffield said they'd do the remap for £500 which they'll get a guy in the usa to write it.

They also said i will gain mpg from the remap aslong as you dont boot it everywhere.

For remaps you're best of sticking with the well known companies that loads of people on here use like CustomCode, Revo, BlueFin or Performance Torque! Most are about £400 but I know Performance Torque are about £265 at the moment.

If you're in Sheffield, you might as well go to JBS in Chesterfield. Like others have said though P-torque are also really good, heard nothing but good things about them.

I'm sure ecotech performance are near you, They'll drive to you and give you a custom remap instead of the silly Stage system.

So if you sort the exhaust out, an air filter, forge tip and a recirc valve get a custom map for £265 you can be pushing 240bhp

The smell could be coming from ur A/C/heater? as a weird smell comes through mine every so often. I

f it is this I don't think it's a problem as a few people have said to me that this happens to theirs.
