A Few Engine Queries....

Well following on from my previous thread about the engine not running as it should, i have decided to go down the new engine route.

It is a 2000 X 1.4 8V (Engine Code - AKK iirc) currently.

I am looking for a replacement engine for it, but need advice before looking for what i can get.

If i was to find a 1.4 16v engine, would it be compatible with my existing 8V engine loom? There are plenty of Polos out there that i could get an engine from. Or would i need Engine Loom too aswell as engine? There is also the 1.6...??

Another 8V is also another option and it would make things more straight forward, so this is probably first choice. What other VAGS have the same 8V engine (AKK)??

Anyone know of any engines available in Yorkshire area?

I realise this is a Cupra forum and this type of engine doesn't really apply, but seen as your all SEAT enthusiasts, i thought it would be worth a shot... I cannot do a 20VT conversion either, as the car is only a run around and will most likely end up in the hands of my little brother when he turns 17... :)

Any help would be brilliant. If you have an engine i may be interested in, please PM me. :D

Thanks

Hey. Where's the old thread? I'm interested in your problems :)

In terms of an engine swap, the loom would depend on what extras the 16v donor car had such as sensors, sensor positions, earth points and other ancillaries etc but the primary concern would be that you'd need the ECU from the donor car as I'm pretty sure your 8v one won't work. Always best trying to get an engine with loom/ecu as it makes the whole deal a lot easier.

Can't help on where you'd find another 8v other than ebay and the for sale section :(

are you doing the change yourself? cos if not would imagine a garage will be quite expensive to do a conversion plus the price of the engine is it worth it?

Here is the other thread ;

Yeah after looking into it the 16v loom will be needed if i were to get an engine. Been offered a 1.4 16v engine and box for £200 but would then need ECU and loom to go with it. Still doesn't seem too bad though...

Found a couple of AKK's on ebay, but just missed out on them. :(

Nah were doing it ourselves matey. The engine is out ready for whatever new one we find. :)

Thanks for help guys :)
