I have a 2002 Toledo TDi. I seem to be having problems with the compressor. When driving home along the A1 (about 40min drive) my A/C at first is OK. After a few minutes at speed 60-70mph, it will stop blowing cool air. The snowflake symbol is still on the MFD. After that I can feel the compressor kick in (feels like a gust if wind hits your car) and at the same time I can hear the air vents go quieter and a change in tone (like the air is being routed differently). But a second later, the air vent change back and I assume the compressor turns off again.
Occasionally, the compressor will turn back on and stay on for a while, giving me cool air again. I'm not sure if this is related to my engine speed. The compressor does seem to stay on more when I'm at lower speeds (more likely lower engine revs), but I'm not sure if it's just coincidence.
I've not looked at the diagnostic codes on the MFD yet, I'll try that driving home tonight.
The only thing I've done recently was to change both my air filter and cabin filters for ones I got from Halfords. My cabin filter was black, and doesn't look like it's ever been changed in a service (it's done over 70000 miles).
Any ideas what the problem could be?
Thanks,
Graham
